right wingers love Putin/russia without realizing he actually behaves very similarly to blm / black nationalist types that right wingers claim to hate

Putin’s raison d’etre is functionally “we wuz kangz” but for Russian people

I stopped being pro-Russia about 15 years ago. I had such high hopes for the Russian Federation, after the breakup of the Soviet Union and the chaotic period of Russian Mafia era only to find Putin has turned it into his own greedy, corrupt kleptocracy, dialed back freedoms, and poisoned the Russian people against the west with all of his propagandizing.

It’s that poisoning the Russian people that is really going to do them in. They’re like Republicans to some extent, absolutely snowed.

I am sure nothing new was said there by either of them.
Are you somehow affiliated with Russia or Ukraine?
It’s just another nothingburger that will be forgotten in a week or two max.

It's weird that you don't instinctively understand that an interview with an adversarial head of state is interesting to educated and politically curious people. It's normal for such people to be interested and curious about issues beyond their own nation's borders.

It's understandable to be interested in a legitimate, inquisitive and hard-hitting interview. But that's not at all what it was. It was Tucker Carlson handing Putin a platform to peddle his deranged propaganda to Tucker's conservative American audiences. What's weird is that you don't instinctively understand the difference.

And Putin’s “explanation” is crap and doesn’t reflect the truth. If historic grounds were enough, look out for Mongolia.

Did you see the full interview or are you just basing your opinion on some talking head who also didn’t see the full interview and is just giving you their biased, preformed opinion? I’m betting there is a 0% chance you even have seen the interview or ever think for yourself for that matter.

If you saw the interview you would know that Tucker was actually pushing back against Putin a lot and annoying him by doing so. He was also making pleas for him to free imprisoned journalists. You obviously didn’t watch it.

Apparently Tucker is so enamored with Russia that he thinks Moscow is nicer than any city in the US.

“And the most radicalizing thing for me in the eight days I spent in Moscow was not just the leader of the country,” Carlson said during a recent interview at the World Government Summit, calling Putin “capable.”

“What was very shocking, very disturbing was the city of Moscow, where I’d never been … it was so much nicer than any city in my country,” he said, calling the Russian capital “so much cleaner, and prettier aesthetically — its architecture, its food, its service — than any city in the United States.”

He obviously didn't get out of the tourist areas.

Here’s picture of the Moscow Metro from CNN. From any objective standpoint this is more beautiful than anything in our capital’s Metro system.

America’s cities are pretty lackluster compared to most cities in Asia and Europe. Saying Moscow is better is not saying much. The bar is pretty low. There were 274 homicides in our capital last year.

Russian has many beautiful towns and cities. I'm surprised that Tucker was so surprised. People in this country really need to get out of the U.S. and travel more!

And take the propaganda tour personally planned by Putin; that will make sure one sees the most accurate picture of Russia.

This was already posted on some other sub forum

America but anglos in general are not wired for urbanity / building and designing urban spaces

Anglos harken for the “shire”

America’s strength isn’t nyc vs Moscow

It’s Rochester Minnesota or Asheville nc or McKinney Texas vs exurbs in Eurasia

The wealth and infrastructure dispersion over vast geographies is mind boggling in the us

We did. Moscow is not better than American cities.

I spent many years in Moscow and visit regularly. It is most certainly cleaner than most American cities. It is not prettier than the pretty areas in American cities, and it is not prettier than other Russian cities (St. Petersburg holds that crown but it is much less manicured). Moscow has an incredible public transit system and unrivaled conveniences. My cousin who still lives there jokes that she never cuts her own vegetables any more because "just order cut-up carrots in, and they'll be delivered in 20 minutes."

In short, there are definitely things to be impressed by in Moscow, but the beauty claim is a stretch. Moscow has its own aesthetic, and it's impressive in some ways, but not necessarily in pure beauty.

It's not even that he praised Moscow--there are a lot of beautiful places around the world and it's quite conceivable some are in Russia--it's just odd to be praising Russia so excessively ("so much nicer than any city in my country") at this time in history.

Moscow is really nice - if you have been there is it truly the reverse of “paris syndrome”

But it is nice because it drains so much capital (human, financial, etc) from a continental sized country

as much as Americans complain about big cities sucking up all capital and young peeps and talent from flyover country, it is nothing like the scale of Moscow vs rest of Russia
