I spent many years in Moscow and visit regularly.  It is most certainly cleaner than most American cities.  It is not prettier than the pretty areas in American cities, and it is not prettier than other Russian cities (St. Petersburg holds that crown but it is much less manicured).  Moscow has an incredible public transit system and unrivaled conveniences.  My cousin who still lives there jokes that she never cuts her own vegetables any more because "just order cut-up carrots in, and they'll be delivered in 20 minutes."

In short, there are definitely things to be impressed by in Moscow, but the beauty claim is a stretch.  Moscow has its own aesthetic, and it's impressive in some ways, but not necessarily in pure beauty.[/quote]
