Tucker in Russia

It would be nice if he just stayed in Russia where he belongs.

Republicans seem to regard it as some sort of traditionalist paradise so I think it’s only fair that they go live the life they want for the world instead of subjecting us to it.

Yes it would. I’m disappointed in the failure of the media to explain how Tucker got to a country that is under a “do not travel” order from the State Department. Either he took a private aircraft (funded by whom?) or he flew from Canada to Cuba and on to Russia. I have not heard at all if Tucker has returned. There have been mutterings that Tucker works for the CIA so paranoid Putin should have that investigated.

There are quite a few commercial flights to Russia, just not direct or via Europe. Actually, there are flights via Serbia - so I stand corrected.

I am just curious why so many people on this board are interested in this interview?
I am sure nothing new was said there by either of them.
Are you somehow affiliated with Russia or Ukraine?
It’s just another nothingburger that will be forgotten in a week or two max.

Yes, in Europe: Serbia and Istanbul. He took the flight via Belgrade.

He is basically a mouthpiece for Russia. He isn’t looking to “tell the truth”. American conservatives will eat it up. The interview will increase the polarization in our country. The sad part is I realize half the country is extremely conservative and probably look to Russia as a source of hope. It’s a place where gays are vilified because it’s a place of “traditional values”. Where a strongman calls the shots. It’s a Christian nationalists dream.

This whole interview is traitorous and bullsht. All it will do is further erode support for additional assistance to Ukraine and show our WW2 allies we have issues.

I haven't read the responses to this thread yet, but you do realize that Russia was our WWII ally? Ands some (many?) historians views the battle of Leningrad (where 2 million Russians died) is what defeated Hitler.

I think a Russian troll farm is writing on this forum. Sad.

Nope. I live in MA in a lovely green leafy suburb of Boston. There's nothing wrong with understanding history and context and stepping out of one's comfort zone in trying to understand other people's perspectives. The world is not made up of simplistic stories where there is one "right" and one "wrong" side. I've never watched a Tucker Carlson interview before but I'm watching his one with Putin now and I am struck by the amount of time he is allowing Putin to provide his perspective of historic context.

You've been brainwashed.

As have you. Everyone’s brainwashed to a certain extent or another by whatever media they watch. All media is propaganda, which is what the middlebrow boomer Blue MAGA contingent on here fails to acknowledge because they’re stuck in their comfortable petit bourgeois bubble.

Um. No. There's a difference. If someone is convincing others of a lie, that's "illusory truth". It's not the same as "a different point of view" but rather "the deceptive manipulation of others".

But I think you know that, right Boris? Or is it Natasha?

The good news is that the more RT convinces ordinary Russians that there are American's on their side of alternate reality, the more constrained the Russian propaganda machine will need to be in terms of attacking Americans. In this touching clip, Simonyan is gushing over Tucker so much it made me want to barf.

But this cause a bit of a propaganda dilemma for Russia. Russian propaganda is now trying to portray they are currently waging a holy war in the West. The logic is that since they are fighting Satan, it's okay to use incendiary weapons on civilian apartment buildings / rape / murder / kidnap children, etc. If you weren't aware, Russia is already at war with the US, NATO, and Europe? And Russia will wage war until 2030?

There is no "do not travel" order from the State Department. There is a level 4 travel advisory but that isn't an order.

Everyday, Royal Caribbean ships pull into a Level 4 country (Haiti) and thousands of Americans stream out. There's no conspiracy. It's just that you misunderstand what travel advisories are.

It's weird that you don't instinctively understand that an interview with an adversarial head of state is interesting to educated and politically curious people. It's normal for such people to be interested and curious about issues beyond their own nation's borders.

It's understandable to be interested in a legitimate, inquisitive and hard-hitting interview. But that's not at all what it was. It was Tucker Carlson handing Putin a platform to peddle his deranged propaganda to Tucker's conservative American audiences. What's weird is that you don't instinctively understand the difference.

It literally says “level 4 do not travel” for Russia (and yes, for Haiti, too). But the Russia travel advisory starts like so: “Do not travel to Russia due to the unpredictable consequences of the unprovoked full-scale invasion of Ukraine by Russian military forces, the potential for harassment and the singling out of U.S. citizens for detention by Russian government security officials, the arbitrary enforcement of local law, limited flights into and out of Russia, the Embassy’s limited ability to assist U.S. citizens in Russia, and the possibility of terrorism. U.S. citizens residing or travelling in Russia should depart immediately. Exercise increased caution due to the risk of wrongful detentions.”

It seems that you are the one who either doesn’t understand or needs to play dumb. Oh and I looked it up: the only cruise ships that dock in Haiti are doing so exclusively at a private resort, clueless cruise passengers aren’t out and about in Port Au Prince.

Tucker turns out to be clueless and wandering.

Thank you. I should have linked it when I said Russia was under a "do not travel" order. I read the State Department advisories before my post. I think it's really arrogant for a U.S. citizen to go to a DNT country unless they are journalists or doing U.S. government business. It carries the expectation that the U.S. will rescue him if things go wrong. Remember, Tucker testified in court that he's an entertainer, not a journalist. That said, has Tucker returned to the United States or has he been drafted?

I’ve been more pro Russia than pro Ukraine during this conflict but I just watched the entire interview and Putin comes off so poorly

This is a great breakdown:

https://open.substack.com/pub/snowdentodd/p/russia-as-a-wordcel-nation?r=bhpmd&utm_medium=ios&utm_campaign=post

right wingers love Putin/russia without realizing he actually behaves very similarly to blm / black nationalist types that right wingers claim to hate

Putin’s raison d’etre is functionally “we wuz kangz” but for Russian people

+1
Putin can keep him.
How about throw in Paul Whelan too, seeing that Tucker is so high profile
