UVA rush

The Friday cuts are the worst at the higher ranked sororities especially because girls felt that they had a shot still if they were there for house tours. My dd had her painful cuts earlier in the week but had many friends who were devastated on pref day. It all worked out though, even if they didn't get their top choices from earlier in the week, they all seem happy where they ended up.

“Devastated” on pref day?

Dear lord. Reality check please.

So much manufactured drama. Ugh.

Definitely. You can have a great social life at VT with no connection to Greek life whatsoever.

It’s not a thing at all

Anymore.

From my uva days, the top sororities were kkg, tri delt, theta, and pi phi. Doubt it’s changed much. Fraternities had a similar pecking order.

How (and why) do you remember that!

I’m pretty sure anyone who went to a Greek dominated school would remember these details. I certainly remember that that top sororities at wake forest in 1999 were KKG, Chi O and Pi Phi. It’s not an insignificant detail of college if you go to a big greek school.

It’s interesting because Chi O is lowest tier at both UVa and VT

the "ranks" are different at every school. Kappa is top at UVA and bottom at another school which I can't recall right now LOL. Chi O is a very southern sorority, founded at U Arkansas, and tends to better in the south where there is a lot of cache to being a Chi O and legacies going back generations.

Kappa is not the top at UVA - I heard DDD is

You heard wrong.

DP. I heard Delta, Theta, then Kappa.

DP. I heard Snickerdoodle Trifecta DeltaForce.

This thread had me go down the rabbit hole of uva sorority IG pages. I went there in the late 90s. The pics make it look like it was exactly the same as it was then. Wasn’t my thing then and it really makes me wonder if it’s the place for DD.

My dd got cut this weekend from the sororities she was interested in on pref day, she is indeed super bummed. Not at UVA.

Well, perhaps you can be a good parent, and tell your UVA student (like I did) about your concerns. I was President of my sorority back in the day. Huge. huge mistake. Both my kids know that. My UVA kid never pledged and never, ever went into one of the houses, which is easy because they are not on campus and only 30% participate.

Perhaps talk to your children and share your concerns instead of judging here. Lots of great students go to UVA and never participate - it's not like the big Greek houses in the south.

Meanwhile, my kid graduated UVA with highest honors and is overseas getting a doctorate. It can happen. Then law school. Imagine that.

What could you have possibly seen on their highly curated Instagram pages to make you question whether UVA is right for your DD? She doesn’t like friends, formals, movie nights at the house, philanthropies? Because that’s all they show on their Instagram. Course the reality is different but in honestly curious about what you didn’t like that you saw?

+2 My DD was also cut from the top sororities on pref day. I would actually say devastated is the right adjective. It is so hard when you are voted out by girls your age. All her friends got bids from the top houses. Just really hard on your self esteem.

They are not at all diverse. There are other sororities for black, Asian, etc kids. But end result is it looks just as segregated as it was 20 years ago. Maybe that’s how every college is, but I don’t know.

You are right they are not terribly diverse but some of that is self selection. As ypu noted a lot of other options that they may choose that ashore girl can’t. Some sororities are more diverse than others but you are right they are heavily Caucasian. Thank you for clarifying what you saw.

A white girl not ashore.

Except it is, and you failed, completely.
