UVA rush

This entire thread is just Saltburn come to life. All those olivers trying to fit into saltburn but not even knowing you don't order breakfast from the staff, it is buffet, except the eggs.
Why on earth would people want to belong to a group where they would never fit in? Insanity.

From my uva days, the top sororities were kkg, tri delt, theta, and pi phi. Doubt it’s changed much. Fraternities had a similar pecking order.

How (and why) do you remember that!

I’m pretty sure anyone who went to a Greek dominated school would remember these details. I certainly remember that that top sororities at wake forest in 1999 were KKG, Chi O and Pi Phi. It’s not an insignificant detail of college if you go to a big greek school.

It’s interesting because Chi O is lowest tier at both UVa and VT

the "ranks" are different at every school. Kappa is top at UVA and bottom at another school which I can't recall right now LOL. Chi O is a very southern sorority, founded at U Arkansas, and tends to better in the south where there is a lot of cache to being a Chi O and legacies going back generations.

Kappa is not the top at UVA - I heard DDD is

You heard wrong.

DP. I heard Delta, Theta, then Kappa.

which is laughable. I literally LOL'd. Assume your DD is in DDD or wants to be?

All three are considered the "top 3", but Kappa is the top, everyone knows this.

DP. If you’re an adult, I’m so embarrassed for you.

eh they can go, assuming they have friends who do get into those frats. My DD knows several independent guys and they get into parties because their friends invite them. My DS does the same at his frat. Not hordes of them of course, but if they have a good friend in the frat, they can usually get into alot of them.

By second year, most kids have fake ids and are going out on the Corner so they don't need to get into a frat. The Greek scene is really only dominant for first and second years. After that, it all kinda of goes out the window and they do more bars.

Why do you always post with a "eh"? are you trying to figure our a way to go back and see your pots? I don't get it.

She is being dismissive of the pp. Are you too dim to understand this?

While this is a UVA specific thread, there are a lot of schools with similar environments PP. UVA has nearly 1,000 student clubs/groups. There’s something for everyone.

But most of these clubs aren't really active.

And none have participation rates of 21%

At this point, the PNMs have been invited back to probably two sororities today. They will probably meet with a sister who they already met this week and basically it will be somewhat more of an intimate conversation about why the PNM should choose the sorority. It’s the most formal of the rounds and they girls all dress in cocktail dresses (brrr). The PNMs then rank their two choices tonight and sign an agreement that they agree they will accept a bid from one of the two sororities that preffed them. They are guaranteed a bid if they do that from one of them.

Some girls might “suicide bid” if they can only see themselves in one of the two. In that case, they will either get that choice or nothing at all.

So they are into at least one no matter what? It’s been a while since I pledged. I lucked out and got into my first choice top tier along with my best friends. I hope it works out for these girls.

Only if they rank the two prefs 1-2. If they choose just 1 and don’t get a bid from that 1, they get nothing.

Anonymous wrote:Hi is anyone with a kid at UVA following the parent posts on FB? I’m shocked that parents use terms like “top tier” frat and how they can’t believe their kid did not get into a top frat. It reminds me of when I was in high school 30 years ago and there were the popular kids. Anyway I just want to tell them that my kid who never had many friends is loving rush and when I asked him about these top tier frats his response is that the top tier is the one that’s right for you.

I am confused. Are you saying publicly on Facebook?

It’s on a UVA parent group on FB.

What are they saying? I can’t imagine posting publicly about such a thing.

It was a mom who was upset that her son didn’t get called back to the top 1-5 fraternities (I.e. top tier). She said her son said it was because he was an international student and that none of the top tier frats let anyone international in. It was a bizarre statement as I don’t even know how her son would know who has been asked back and who hasn’t since rush isn’t even over yet.

Sorry to hear that.

The first cuts are made before they even meet the PNMs. These are based on profiles, short videos, etc. So they’re basically screening for wealth, social media followings, popularity in HS etc.

For a supposed parent posting on DCUM, you know a little too much about this.

Yes, it's definitely less dominant.

+1
There are so many other things to be a part of there, Greek life is just not the huge thing it is at some other universities.

Sorry you didn’t get a bid.

Considering I chose a school deliberately with no Greek system, that's a-ok with me! My own kid is smart enough not to bother with rush at their school. Sorry yours isn't.

No
No one is impressed with your lame bragging. Tearing down others isn’t nice. Or weren’t you taught that? No one here is saying you and your child are weird, losers are they? Be better.

Um, what do you call the bolded?

Dorks don’t rush.

Shallow strivers certainly do.

PP is just wildly insecure. Probably a loser then and an in life.

Too funny - you just completely contradicted the PP's claims.
