Well it’s a teen and tween thread, they like more expensive things and not Barbies anymore. You belong on the elementary forum for toy ideas.

I think you're missing the point. It was about price, not age or toys vs. beauty. My point is that I'm not buying my kids a $150 toy and will not be buying them $25 name brand lip masks when they ask for that.

So what ARE you buying your 8 year old, and do you really think that is still what you will be buying her when she is 16?

so many defensive people here, LOL!!!!

Mine are the same way - they don't know brands, but do know the styles they want (like my 6th grader wanted cropped shirts all summer, wanted flared pants this fall, etc.). She knows her 16 year old cousin is obsessed with Lululemon, but hasn't expressed any preference for brands yet. I'm hoping it stays that way for a while.

I think this is also a socioeconomic thing. We're pretty middle of the road as are the people at my kids' schools. There are a lot of wealthy people on this website, so take some of this with a grain of salt.

These are all mall brands, middle of the road prices so don’t worry. Easy to buy when the stores have sales online and at their stores. Even cheaper on eBay or poshmark

It’s not uncommon for 6th graders to like a style but not yet know the brands. Did she want flared Jeans or leggings? What did you end up getting?

I don't think Lulu prices are middle of the road prices - I don't pay $100 for leggings for myself, I certainly won't buy them for my tween. If she wants Lulu, she's pitching in to pay the difference between those and what I'd be picking up from H&M.

Honey no one cares. People are just looking for gift ideas.

No we didn’t miss the point. You’re clueless about raising teenagers because you don’t have them yet. Instead of lecturing us on how to parent kids the age ours are, go back to the side of this board that is for kids YOUR age and gloat there about how cheap you’ll be for their Christmas presents.

Exactly. Teens are expensive. I had no idea just how expensive until I had actual teens.

I also don't spend Brady as much money on gifts for my kids as many people do. I didn't when they were little and I don't now even that they are teens.

But this is a "holiday gift ideas for teens" thread--not a "contribute your thoughts about how much parents should spend on teens for the holidays" thread.

Your point was judgmental and unhelpful.

Brady? I meant "nearly"

Out tweens have requested oculus, large Lego sets, squishmallows, arts supplies.

I'll probably get them go cart racing gift certificates also.

Based on the time of your series of rants I’m guessing you got into the wine a little. You’re actually missing the point of the whole thread, gift ideas for tweens and teens. No one cares about whether you will purchase a Barbie dream house for your kids who are neither tweens nor teens. No one cares whether you think $25 lip masks are too expensive and therefore won’t buy them one Christmas in the future when your kids are tweens and teens.

My favorite Christmas morning memory is coming downstairs with my sister and seeing that barbie dreamhouse.

We're getting DS this watercolor set and some watercolor paper-- looks like it should be better quality than things marketed for kids. And most importantly, it won't take up too much room in our house!
