Yes, annoying. I found a solution. Scan, let's say, a bottle of water. Instead of placing it in the checkout area, place it in your bag and only then place the bag with the water in the checkout area and continue filling it up. |
That’s because there no longer are cashiers and baggers with a lot of experience or even new employees who were trained by seasoned veterans. Those days are over. |
I’m amazed at the number of people who let people choose their produce and meat for them. |
Aldi uses the same model they use in Germany/Austria - in all grocery stores in Germany/Austria, not just cheaper ones - customers are expected to bag their own groceries and there's an area with counter space to do so after you go through the checkout if you can't get everything in the bags at the checkout. |
+1 |
the checkers at wegmans at CityRidge are excellent. Using checkers would stop way more theft than self check out software changes. |
All the self checkout places are this annoying, not just the Giant ones.
Everywhere. Now, if you go to the lane where there is a worker to checkout, sometimes they don't even bag your items! The only time they bag for you is when are using plastic bags. I didn't know bring my own bags mean i have to bag it myself. To make it worse, watching the slow person bagging your bag after scanning the items is painful. But, when you bag groceries yourself, they try to rush you out and start scanning the next customer. Annoying. |
It matters if you care about what you’re making. Also every pick up order I’ve made was screwed up somehow. |
Same here. I tried grocery delivery in the past but the order was always messed up somehow. |
The only self check out that I liked was one Walmart in Maine. It was a new Walmart and there’s self checkout area had plenty of room to organize and for bagging. I have never seen one like that before.
I hate self check outs and I will always choose a human cashier over self check out, unless I have less than five items. The headache is not worth it. |
Why is this such a problem for you? Our housekeeper never seems to have an issue when she gets our groceries for us. |
Haha. I know people hate to bring race into an issue but as a POC I hate the new checkout machines. It’s bad enough that store clerks are suspicious of me and now I have to worry about a machine yelling to the whole world that I didn’t place an item in the checkout area (when I just did!) |
I'd rather deal with that than the lazy cashiers who throw my stuff down the counter and expect me to bag. |
How do YOU know? ![]() |
YES. They hate when you bring your own bags. It drives me crazy. |
