Great game last night - LB definitely has great talent but Oakton just would not go away. LB had 3- and 4-goal leads at various points but Oakton kept grinding and got it tied at 11 with couple minutes to play. LB had good possession at end but then Oakton got it back and had chance to tie it at buzzer. Great game overall to wrap up spring break tourney.

It’s going to be a very fun spring season!

Interested to see Battlefield play Lake Braddock next week. Yorktown, Madison, Lake Braddock, and Robinson are all pretty comparable.

I wouldn’t rule out Langley. They play Mclean on Monday which should show if either team is for real this year. McLean undefeated but hasn’t really played anyone significant yet.

Langley is in the mix at #6, but they haven’t shown that they can beat a top 5 yet, and beating McLean won’t prove much. McLean is a fringe #10-12 school and Langley would have to beat them badly for the game to show anything. Langley really needs to beat Yorktown to show they are a contender.

If I was one of the top teams I would not be overconfident meeting up with Langley come postseason or McLean for that matter .

Is it the moms or the dads of the players who are so ridiculously over-invested in these high school teams?

Y’all are seriously over-compensating for something here, just not sure what it is (living in Arlington, SDS, something else)?

Or we just like the sport and enjoy discussing it with other people that do as well…..no one is forcing you to read this thread

You don’t seem to enjoy anything other than the constant one upsmanship.

I’m guessing it’s about five guys who can’t even get it up any more living vicariously through their 16-year-old kids. Quite pathetic.

I’ve been following the thread closely and it is remarkably devoid of one upsmanship. I think you are projecting about that, and possibly the random comment about not getting it up involves some projecting on your part too.

Someone posted a while back how this thread has been very civil and it has been. Let’s keep it that way and ignore the randoms who come in to be trolls and gaslighters. District games start up this week for many teams. Would like to see predictions and updates regarding that instead.

LB v. Battlefield will be game of the week. Prediction: Battlefield 12, LB 7.

I don’t think anyone holds LB to 7. I’ll say LB 10 Battlefield 8.

My Madison/LB prediction was 9-8 (not too shabby), let’s see if I can do even better this time: Battlefield 13 LB 9

Week of April 10 -2023 VA Boys 6A Rankings

1. Yorktown (5-1)

Last Week: No games

Analysis: Yorktown takes over the top spot with the Lake Braddock loss. The Patriots look very solid, with three quality wins against Robinson, Madison, and Oakton, in addition to dominating LB in their scrimmage. Two easy games this week means Yorktown should end the week at 7-1 with their only a loss to a decent private school team.

This Week: Wakefield (4/10), Washington-Liberty (4/11)

2. Battlefield (2-1)

Last Week: No games

Analysis: Long layoff for the Bobcats but they move slightly ahead of Lake Braddock for now after the Bruins fell to Madison and barely topped Oakton. Tough week ahead with games against three ranked opponents, including the Bruins on Wednesday. Time to find out what Battlefield is made of.

This Week: Lake Braddock (4/12), Freedom (4/13), Westfield (4/15)

3. Madison (5-1)

Last Week: Def. Lake Braddock 10-9 OT, Def. South County 13-3

Analysis: Last week, Madison looked like the team we had ranked #1 preseason, knocking off the then #1 Bruins and dispatching the South County Stallions with ease. Tough defense combined with a crisp offense that moves the ball around efficiently led to two solid wins. Finally an easy week for the Warhawks with just one game against 1-5 Chantilly.

This Week: Chantilly (4/10)

4. Lake Braddock (6-1)

Last Week: Lost to Madison 10-9 OT, Def. Oakton 12-11

Analysis: Lake Braddock stumbled during Spring Break, losing to a resurgent Madison team and barely beating Oakton. Both Madison and Oakton have tough defenses and they made LB work for every goal. Nothing particularly bad about the Bruins’ performances but they have their weaknesses and don’t look able to blow out the top teams, despite having a few high level players. Busy weak ahead, including an especially interesting matchup with Battlefield.

This Week: West Springfield (4/11), Battlefield (4/12), McLean (4/15)

5. Robinson (5-2)

Last Week: Def. Oakton 15-4

Analysis: The Rams came out hard against Oakton and gave them their worst loss of the season. Definitely still one of the Power 5. After four wins in a week, Robinson gets a long 15-day break to rest and recover.

This Week: No games

6. Langley (3-1)

Last Week: No games for Langley over Spring Break. Busy week ahead with crosstown rival McLean, Marshall, and Sidwell Friends on tap. McLean should be a good test, and the Saturday game with Sidwell should be interesting. Would be nice to see a public beat one of the private schools, even if Sidwell is not a powerhouse.

This Week: McLean (4/10), Marshall (4/12), Sidwell Friends (4/15)

7. Freedom South Riding (5-2)

Last Week: No games

Analysis: Freedom comes off a long layoff with what should be an easy warmup game tomorrow before a huge matchup with Battlefield on Wednesday. We find out this week if Battlefield will have any competition in their region or if they will coast to first place and have a path straight through to States.

This Week: Colonial Forge (4/12), Battlefield (4/13)

8. Westfield (3-1)

Last Week: Def. South County 8-6

Analysis: Westfield continues to play close games, but that could come back to bite them this week as they have three testy opponents that could knock Westfield out of the top ten if they don’t find a way to pull off at least two wins. Westfield beat Herndon more easily than did McLean, and the Bulldogs edge the Highlanders just barely as a result.

This Week: Centreville (4/10), McLean (4/12), Battlefield (4/15)

9. McLean (7-0)

Last Week: Def. Trinity Mountain View 17-4, Def. West Springfield 12-9

Analysis: Two more wins against lesser opponents leaves McLean with the best record in 6A. Their unblemished record will not likely survive this week, as the Highlanders have a difficult stretch with Langley, Westfield, and Lake Braddock in a six-day period. One win would be good, two would be great, three would be unbelievable.

This Week: Langley (4/10), Westfield (4/12), Lake Braddock (4/15)

10. Oakton (2-4)

Last Week: Lost to Robinson 15-4, Lost to Lake Braddock 12-11

Analysis: Strange to have a 2-4 team in the top ten, but Oakton has played a brutal schedule so far and almost knocked off Lake Braddock last week. They still look like one of the ten best teams in the area, and finally get an easy game with only South Lakes up this week.

This Week: South Lakes (4/12)

Honorable Mention: Patriot, John Champe, Cosby
