The letter mentioned other factors that they did specifically consider like FARMS, ESOL, etc. We aren’t thrilled with the results either, but whatever. My older kid is a senior, and she has some friends going through a brutal year in college admissions. It all just sucks and is unfair, but that’s what happens when you have so many smart and well-educated parents crammed in one county. There aren’t enough seats for all of the qualified kids. |
He can. It is explicitly stated in the email. |
This is RMIB you are asking about yes? Does your kid have high math AND reading scores? Foreign language? I think they are looking for very well rounded kids. I also wonder if they get more female applicants and more language humanities focused applicants giving the male stem kids an edge. |
no email from RM, does it mean rejection? |
Has anyone heard from Wheaton engineering? |
Yes! And and you should |
NP. I don't think it's helpful to ask these questions. You can agonize for hours about this stuff but there's often no obvious reason why someone was chosen and someone else was not. There are a lot of qualified kids with everything you asked and they still don't get in. It's not very scientific. PP I'm sorry about your child and wish them success in whatever school they end up in! |
Blair stem, minimum SSL and definitely not into sports. The essay mattered a lot I think. At the time I was scared because his essay read like a casual email to a friend but I didn't intervene and now I'm glad I didn't lol |
No, my son only has 40 hours SSL |
Still waiting to hear from Wheaton for my twins. |
just tell your child -- it was a lottery ! |
You can tell her my older DC's friends who were in the same situation a few years ago got into Ivy League and other top schools from their home school and they were much happier than some of the kids who went to the magnets. Having a shorter commute and ability to keep local friends is a big deal.

9th grade & 10th are basically already napped out. Besides the math, everyone takes the same Chem/physics, same comp sci (though sone advance 2nd semester of 9th), and the magnet version of woodshop. All your kid picks are elective like PE or arts rotation, foreign language and/or band. |
I’m the pp you quoted. Congratulations to your DC! Like another pp said, I’m not sure that there’s a rhyme or reason. But one thing is that my kid is taking Algebra 2 this year, and I assume they took a close look at any kid in that category. Their essay also made it clear that they’d be a good fit for the program in terms of intellectual interests. But I was nervous that they might not seem well rounded enough. Congrats again to your DC; I hope they have an amazing HS experience. |
Mapped out |
