+1000.

Special shoutout to the Republicans who have made it impossible for anyone to do anything about guns. You do know that most of the guns flowing into the cities are coming from red areas with lax laws, right?
Also, Dems are not about "handouts for the black community" - if that's what you think it is, you are missing 97% of the picture.

NP. You’re right. Dems are about promising handouts and then reneging when they come to power on the backs of foolish black voters. We’re supposed to be grateful for lip service from the likes of Biden, who spent MLK Jr. Day lying, was anti-choice until 30 seconds before he ran, and wrote the crime bill that destroyed two generations of black families. Listen, Rs stink, but nothing is worse than an enemy posing as a friend. That’s what Ds are.

Do you have examples of what handouts Biden promised blacks when he ran for President, and then reneged on?

No answer?

Don't forget "victimization". What would Democrats do without the victim card?

Are you going for buzzword bingo?

No, Democrats would win every time.

This whole thread is full of bad faith arguments against some mythical straw man white Democrat who represents all Democrats and ignores Black voters. Democrats have elected thousands of Black men and women and other POC to federal, state, and local offices. Democrats actually elect and listen to leaders who represent Black communities, not a random Black conservative who lives in a gated suburban community and votes the same as the racists. As someone previously pointed out, the Democratic Congress had seven Black committee chairs plus Clyburn in leadership, and now the new Minority Leader. Black Democrats are not ignored or neglected.

The latter were brought here in chains and forcibly kept from acquiring money and education in any large numbers for centuries. It’s not surprising if the former are more likely to identify with a party that claims allegiance to the American dream and working hard and all that, especially if they don’t view their race to be an issue.

Of course, the skinhead branch of the GOP doesn’t really see the difference between Island Black and American Black, and it’s quite clear the GOP is no longer, if it ever was, the party of opportunity for the working man.

To their credit, the GOP is really good at picking diverse people to represent them. Anyone can do the dirty work of the oligarchs these days. That’s progress I guess.

Do you have a citation for the assertion that African and Caribbean immigrants arrive in the U.S. with money (as opposed to making it here by taking advantage of opportunities)? I see a lot of African Americans say this as if it’s some unquestionable truth, but I’ve yet to see any evidence for that.

DP: It'd be interesting to compare the average amount of money brought by black immigrants vs. the average amount of money owned by native blacks.

There are literally studies on this. Black immigrants tend to come to the US with money and education. Also, it is different when you grow up in a country where everyone is black. You are not affected by the mental toll of racism.

Funny how you say there are studies, only to ignore them.

US blacks have on average much more wealth and income than average black immigrants, so saying the later suceed just because they come with more money is false and, frankly, insulting.

NP. Bingo. Not all African-Americans think in such self-pitying ways, but there’s definitely a significant number that convince themselves black immigrants are successful because they arrive successful. They don’t want to entertain the reality that black immigrants come here typically impoverished and make something of themselves.

It’s also interesting how lacking in common sense the idea that rich black immigrants settle in America. Absolutely no one rich and well-situated who is also black wants to settle here. In my own family, the only ones of us who have settled in America are the ones who didn’t have a pot to piss in back home. That’s the only way that leaving everything you know to come to a country where your skin color is so stigmatized makes sense. Africans who have money and education back home visit the United States to shop, sight see, and then go back. Why in the world would they stay here to get called the N-word, stall out on the corporate ladder due to race, or have their heads bounced off the sidewalk by the NYPD?

That's an excellent point and sounds very true in my experience too -- it's not the wealthiest Latinos who move and settle here, those are happy back home. It's for the most part the ones who "didn’t have a pot to piss in back home."

And yet, while often not even speaking English coming here ... we do well in 1-2 generations through family, education and hard work.

I salute you, PP.

Precisely. It’s funny when African Americans point out all the ways in which black and brown are at the bottom in America and then think rich blacks from other countries are going to sign up for that. I guess it’s easier on the ego to pretend every successful black immigrant came here as a black prince a la “Coming to America.” Admitting we worked our asses off and made it through the opportunities available right here in the USA would raise too many questions….

Kudos to you too, PP. Nothing beats family, education, and hard work. Would we have gotten farther in America as white people? Probably, but life is still good regardless.

Oh, so I guess that's what your Republican friends meant when they kept telling black and brown people they need to go back to where they came from...

I’m not sure how your comment fits in with the chain you’re responding to.

It fits. Go back and re-read the thread and think a bit more on it. Your lack of self-awareness is getting in the way of understanding.

DP. The PP is correct. Your comment makes no sense and you look silly pretending it does.

You're right, this thread is full of bad faith arguments started by the OP and continued by idiots who resent any black person who dares to vote Republican and who calls out Democrats as the virtue signaling frauds they are. The entire premise of this thread is asinine.

Agreed! That anyone would think that black and brown would not be able to succeed without their special help is the worst kind of prejudice!

“The White liberal is the worst enemy to America and the worst enemy to the Black man. Let me first explain what I mean by this White liberal. In America there’s no such thing as Democrats and Republicans anymore. That’s antiquated. In America you have liberals and conservatives. This is what the American political structure boils down to among Whites. The only people who are still living in the past and thinks in terms of “I’m a Democrat” or “I’m a Republican” is the American Negro. He’s the one who runs around bragging about party affiliation and he’s the one who sticks to the Democrat or sticks to the Republican, but White people in America are divided into two groups, liberals and Republicans…or rather, liberals and conservatives. And when you find White people vote in the political picture, they’re not divided in terms of Democrats and Republicans, they’re divided consistently as conservatives and as liberal. The Democrats who are conservative vote with Republicans who are conservative. Democrats who are liberals vote with Republicans who are liberals. You find this in Washington, DC. Now the White liberals aren’t White people who are for independence, who are liberal, who are moral, who are ethical in their thinking, they are just a faction of White people who are jockeying for power the same as the White conservatives are a faction of White people who are jockeying for power. Now they are fighting each other for booty, for power, for prestige and the one who is the football in the game is the Negro. Twenty million Black people in this country are a political football, a political pawn an economic football, an economic pawn, a social football, a social pawn...” MALCOLM X

The same that he promised progressives and then didn't deliver on. Voter rights protections is the big one. College affordability, affordable housing, tax credits for child care, universal pre-k, ending for profit prisons, any kind of gun control...

Anything on Biden’s agenda that wasn’t enacted was blocked by Republicans, including Tim Scott, Byron Donalds, and especially Clarence Thomas. What stupid world do you live in?

Don't understand the bolded.

White dems who are liberal vote with Rs who are liberal? That's a lot of contradiction and confusion.

Malcolm X hated all white people and opposed integration. I don't blame him for being angry. I would be, too, if I had his history. But if he had his way, there would be a race war, and we'd still have segregation.

He's not exactly someone you would want to follow unless you want a race war.

Malcolm X wasn’t writing in a time when Black Democrats were elected all around the country at all levels of government.
