Why do rich men seem to heavily prefer very skinny women? Even over a beautiful face?

This thread is basically a way for people to hate on thin people. Fat people can’t conceive of a world where thin women aren’t miserable. Where they are just naturally thin or do a good job taking care of themselves without some disorder. You can’t conceive that thin, happy women exist. They must be miserable! (Why? Oh right, because you are miserable.) a

Jeff, if this were reversed and there were all this bigoted fat bashing, this thread would get shut down in a hot minute. Why don’t all you sad people go for a walk?

How is anyone "bashing" thin people? The OP just observed a phenomenon and asked a question about it. People have been sharing their opinions on either side, and it's pretty civil. Why does this question bother you?

"Maybe, but the older thin women seem exceptionally bitter and miserable. They don’t just hate fat. They hate everything."

"Sounds really awful to be a woman who has to have a major focus on body maintenance in their 40s and 50s or else face divorce/ being switched out for a newer model."

This one is especially a doozy:
"They are also, bar none, the collectively most miserable old people. Their anger and bitterness is overwhelming when you talk with them. They are absolutely disgusted by fat, but also by pretty much everything else in life."

"...their taste everything eat nothing, G&T diets."

"...she is not sure she’s ever met a genuinely happy thin older woman. ... She almost thinks it is physiological, like a lifetime spent watching food intake turns into permanent anhedonia and an inability to love."

Someone who is angry it's hard for herself to stay thin decides all thin women are miserable like she is. She also conflates "not having enough calories" with "being thin", as though people who aren't fat are automatically starving themselves.
"As someone who used to be extremely thin, I think it does make you miserable. When you dont have enough calories, your body starts literally taking fat from the brain. It's not to say anyone has to be overweight, but I think a normal weight might be healthier. Whatever you have to do to maintain such a low body fat, seems to make people kind of miserable."

Read the Minnesota starvation experiment. All of these things (finding normal size people disgusting, depression, apathy, etc) are normal psychological reactions to calorie restriction. It’s not surprising that people have observed them in themselves and others.

Also, you have to imagine that nearly every fat person has gone through week/months/years where they have calorie restricted. People are generalizing their own experiences.

This is true of calorie restriction, I absolutely believe it.

But it's also important for people to understand: SOME WOMEN ARE THIN WITHOUT CALORIE RESTRICTION.

Cue a bunch of posters telling me I'm wrong, that there's no such thing as a person whose natural weight while eating healthily is a size 0 or 2, or that this can only be true for very young women, or very tall women, or women of certain races.

I am very big on body acceptance but I think it should apply to everyone. I've noticed that a lot of women, specifically, think it should only apply to certain groups. This thread is a good example of that.

While I agree, I think the point of the discussion was whether rich men agree. To which I would say no, they generally do not. Being and maintaining a certain type of body is part of the bargain when you go for a rich guy. I also think rich people are deluding themselves when they say things like ‘My husband loves that I naturally don’t care about dieting or exercise.” I highly doubt he would be saying that if the wife were pudgy. “Naturally” thin is part of the status/lifestyle.

I was a nanny for a rich family in college, I knew them very well. I didn’t want to be them, especially the wife. If that is what you strive for, fine, but have room for those who don’t hold you on a pedestal.

Exactly. And the percentage of people who have an exceedingly fast metabolism and are "naturally thin" to the extent that rich women are thin, is extremely low. So that simply wouldn't explain, at all, the body types of the women that very rich men are married to.

Let’s try this again:
Just because you are thin does not mean you are starving yourself and are miserable. Is this what you people really think? Good Christ.

No. This thread isn’t about people who are naturally thin. It’s about people who starve themselves to achieve a certain look and status.

It's not a fat vs thin debate it's OP wondering why she sees rich men with thin women. How do we know those women aren't naturally thin? But besides that point, people seem to be denying what OP sees. OP hasn't actually said where she is witnessing all these rich men and their wives/girflriends.

I like thin women. Blue collar guys like thick women. Why? Who knows.

Probably because that is who available to them. Like attracts like.

I dont think that's true... a lot of these blue collar guys are hot and ripped AF. They have six packs. I have spent time in blue collar communities, and there are plenty of really skinny women running around. But often you will see the hot construction worker type men running around with very curvy women.

If the guys aren't rich, who cares? They aren't what this topic is about.

Hmm guess that's not the norm everywhere. I don't see a lot of hot construction workers ever really. Unless we have wildly different ideas of hotness.

I'm from DC originally so it was definitely a bit of a surprise. A lot of those blue collar men down south are HOT AF and I was not mentally prepared. They have insane muscular structure from working outside all day (I dont know if all of them are construction workers or what theyre all doing, just that it appears to be blue collar). Definitely not your DC wonks!

Well, I live out west and this is not remotely true. Guess it's a souther thing.
\

That's probably why I specified the south.... lmao.

It wasn't stated up front, it was presented as fact until you followed up. I stand by what I said, like attract likes because that's what I see if we're going off our lived experiences.

Another former southerner who can speak for some ripped blue collar guys. Most not in construction however they are usually never without women following them around.

I know you think your slick but your unhinged, not very intelligent tone is extremely easy to spot. And you should be careful, because thread squatting is not looking on kindly and could get you a ban. Just a heads up since you're so clearly confused. Might be a great idea to, you know... get a hobby, make a friend, get into a relationship... anything to prevent from spending several hours bickering in the same thread on DCUM would be a great idea.

It’s partially the female crowd. If all the women are thin and this is your new social crowd you will feel more pressure to maintain or become thin yourself. Also, resources for self care and beauty treatments. Anything from trainers and facials to liposuction and tummy tucks. Lots of factors but essentially social expectations and allocation of resources and time on self care.
