Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS)
And let’s not forget kids are not immune from long Covid either. We have a neighbor who’s kid has had Covid 3 times since returning to school! Of course there are trade offs with virtual/homeschool but that has always been the case. Right now keeping the family healthy tips the balance in favor of staying home. It’s gonna be a rotten flu season too. |
Have you always felt this way of did you just become prejudiced against homeschooling families during the pandemic? |
Homeschooling families let their kids out in public, play sports, etc. And if a homeschooling family does not, they're as abusive and selfish as PP. |
at this point that's my primary concern and why I feel MCPS is letting us and our children down by giving into the anti-maskers |
Agree, people unwillingly to mask have the option to homeschool |

DP. If they were also isolating their kids from peers outside of school, then I absolutely found that troubling before the pandemic. At the very least those cases should be investigated for signs of even more severe abuse. |
Have you actually looked at the long covid studies with control groups? Particularly when you’re looking at kids, the frequency and severity of long covid symptoms really aren’t much different than other post-viral syndromes. Often they're not even that different than the natural background rate of those symptoms. Things like fatigue, headaches, and congestion are very common. |
Are there any districts left with mask mandates? What do the Covid rates look like when you compare those with and without mandates? Because especially with the new variants, my understanding is that mask mandates don’t really make a difference. No one is saying a tightly fitted, medical grade mask doesn’t work, but a lot of kids and teachers werent wearing those to begin with, and you’d still have to figure out distancing for lunch, which put a lot of strain on schools last year. If you’re worried about your own kid catching Covid, get them a tightly fitted mask and make alternate arrangements for lunch, you’d have to do that regardless of whether the “anti-maskers” were forced to pull the cloth masks back out of their drawer. |
It’s still an experiment because we don’t know the cumulative effects of multiple infections yet. Thanks for taking part in the experiment! |
I do know someone who has done this- they are super-concerned about catching Covid but their DC has trouble wearing a mask the whole day. So for them homeschooling makes the most sense right now. |
JFC if you don't see the issue with kids not being able to socialize with other kids you're beyond help. I seriously hope you're a troll but I fear you're not. These kids are going to be beyond messed up, but hey they didn't get covid, so that's something. |
No one is saying these kids aren't safely socializing outside of school. Tons of outdoors activities available, especially this time of year, which is 100x times different than packed schools with ZERO mitigation. |
Grow up and stop wasting child welfare's time with reports that would be screened out. If you want these kids to return to in person you need to be part of the solution which is keeping all students and their families safe. If there is no masking, no testing, no distancing and everything is back to normal, its a hard no for our family. We don't have your privilege. |
You mean the privilege of not being a psychopath? |
