Is this supposed to energize forced birthers to get out to the polls -and if so why not make it a 6 week ban, or a zero week ban? What's the strategy?

Today's The Daily addresses this point.

It is to recast the debate to make the GOP seem have the reasonable position (after 15 weeks, many people become "less comfortable" with "abortion on demand.") and cast Democrats as fringe or radical. They are banking on Americans buying that position.

Ah, the GOP, where “arbitrary” = “reasonable.”

That seems... wildly misguided, at best.

No kidding. It is clear that this entire abortion issue has always just been a manipulative political calculation for these operators.

At this point, everyone just wants to keep their sons and daughters far away from these people and their abusive laws.

It’s “reasonable” because if they get in power again, it will be comparatively reasonable as abortion will be totally illegal, as will birth control. The GOP is frigging insane.

Lying A--holes.

Every bad thing that’s been said about the GOP is correct. They have no morals, no beliefs. They only want power.

The new narrative negates the old narrative. They have spent the past 60 years as the states-rights party opposing federal government authority over anything.

Yep, that, and also it’s not the 1950’s anymore—these old guys are waaaaay out of touch. Women and men talk to eachother about this stuff now! My octogenarian relatives might support this (because in their time, having a period was a dirty secret and women didn’t have miscarriages, they just died tragically in “childbirth”) but no one else.

It’s this. Poor Alito and his friends have made it so there is no practical consequence for the extremism of the GQP death cult, at least not at the polls. They wouldn’t be doing this unless they were assured they would get away with it. The state legislatures are gerrymandered to the hilt, and SCOTUS is mere months away from making democracy a thing of the past by giving the states the right to overturn free and fair elections. It’s over, folks.

Well. They’re not wrong. But if we get a few more Senate seats we might be able to convince Dem senators to expand the court. It’s really imperative.

Can we send all the unwanted babies born of rape, I eat and domestic violence to him to care for? He loves life so much, I am sure he won’t mind fitting the bill for education, clothes, medicine, food and therapy!

You see, he was strictly speaking hypothetically, you know, explaining what is possible, not what he would actually do.
