| Totally ridiculous. She chose to go to Russia as a high visibility American during a time of high tension. No sympathy for fools like her. |
Right. Because it’s all about her loved ones and how they feel. |
|
What about Paul Whelan?
I thought he'd be a first priority. |
A USA WNBA basketball player for a Russian known as The Merchant of Death based on being the equivalent of Apple in cellphones in the world hierarchy of arms dealers. USA military, embassies, etc all over the world. Our own people are placed in danger by putting him back in action. |
| Paul Whelan SHOULD be a first priority. |
| He's been detained since 2019, and is serving a 16 year sentence. |
| We and allies spent years and millions of dollars going after Bout and now we through it all away because Britney decided to carry drugs around Russia. Thanks Britney. Nice work |
| I’m very middle of the road politically and I’m torn about this move. The person they graded her for seems very dangerous!! |
Why? They're both Americans and ones life is not more deserving than the other? I"m not super sympathetic to Griner but it's pretty gross to say one person's life has more value than another. |
He was going to be release in about 5 years anyway. It's not like we were going to keep him locked away for life. He's a low value trade in that regard. |
He was going to be released in 5 years anyway. |
In their view it is. And if it were my family, or yours, you'd feel the same way. Don't be a dick. |
| I’m gonna bet there is more to this deal than is or will ever be released. |
| Looks like some Russian is still good at screwing with American politics. We traded an arms dealer for someone who chose to be in Russia while the state department was warning everyone to not be in Russia and left behind someone that a large portion of Americans think was working for the US government. |
