Separaton of Church and State

Maybe that's why there is such a weak response against religion infiltrating govt? Anyone, GOP or Dem, who practices religion will have an internal conflict of interest. It's like voting for a Dem candidate who is a card carrying member of the NRA while the country desperately needs sensible gun control laws, yet when people vote for Dems who practice religion they are shocked later on and wondering why secularism is in trouble.

SMH.

No one is against free practice of religion by anyone. It is a government coercing a captive audience to observe the religious practice of someone who has authority over them that is the issue.

The crazy thing is that he was praying about something as inconsequential as a football game. At least pray about something important.

I don't like the decision, but I think the practical solution is to publicly shun and shame these grandstanding asshats.

Jesus preached against ostentatious, performative prayer:
"And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full."
Matthew 6:5.

I don’t want my kids prayer with lunatic fundamentalist Christians. They grew up Episcopalian, not some snake-handling racist Baptist church trash.

I wonder how many here have ever heard of the FCA practicing its ministry on school campuses across the nation?

Or know how many schools are rented out by churches for Sunday services?

It would probably make your minds explode!

I am thankful God is taking back the places people were restricted from their free exercise of religion. In the oral argument, the lawyer for the district said coercion of students had nothing to do with this case. Many chose to join his sessions.

It speaks wonders to know so many from the stands rushed the field to join the coach in prayer.

This was such the right decision.

Many felt like they had to join his sessions because then they wouldn’t get playing time over those who did if they didn’t.

That is just not true at all.
Yes it is. Read the case.

Read the case and the oral arguments and statements from the school and the parents. There was zero coercion.

If you think that persons in positions of authority over children - like coaches and teachers - can ask children to join in prayer to Jesus Christ without having Jewish, Muslim, Buddhist, Hindu, atheist, or agnostic children feeling coerced then you clearly have no understanding of children and the power of teachers and coaches over them. Would you ever say that a student could avoid sexual advances by a coach because there was no "coercion"? Simply being in a position of authority over children implies a level of coercive power.

Congratulations. You’ve just become every parent furious with school boards - the same ones you’ve degraded these past years.

Great - so you agree that teaching Kindergarteners about sexual orientation is perhaps a level of coercive power?

jfc lets just do away with biology and psychology but keep the fantastical person in the sky class aka church

yes because it is wrong. im not 100% against churches paying to use government property for services as long as it is restricted to Sundays when there are no students there. evenings and saturdays are not allowed because of games, practices, evening events, detention, and other items. they should also pay separately for janitorial services and have a contract that requires them to pay for any damages, wear and tear of the facility and bathrooms maintenance.

I think most of us are aware schools rent space out to many groups, including religious ones. I don't have any issue with that at all. No one has to go to the event and no one would feel coerced to do so. It is completely different from a coach publicly praying after a football game where his players/students feel coerced to join in.

The intellectual dishonesty (i.e. blatant lying) from a SC justice is maddening. Sure, Jan. It was only the other team.

"Gorsuch dismisses this photographic evidence by claiming that “not a single Bremerton student joined Mr. Kennedy’s quiet prayers” after this game — he claims that the players depicted in this photograph are “from the opposing team.”"

Why can't this guy teach at a private Christian school? >> I stand by my assertion yesterday that he is an abusive bully.

Why can't this guy teach at a private Christian school?

Why should he accept sh|tty pay and benefits when he can just force the public school to do what he wants anyway?

When teachers use this as basis to recite Muslim or Jewish or Hindu prayers we will see exactly whose mind explodes.

What would the reaction on FoxNews be if a black muslim coach led a bunch of black muslim players in the salah at a game? It would be worth getting that organized and filmed just to see Tucker's head explode.
