Agree, this is equally terrible, and those parents are probably still working from home.

I'm actually happy about every unmasked teacher I see, because it will benefit their interactions with the kids, and because it's good to see they are not afraid. But those who are afraid should experience no pressure to unmask either.

Remember a teacher might be masking for reasons that are none of your business. Someone in their home could have cancer, they could have cancer, they might be planning on seeing someone over the weekend and don’t want to get sick before that.

Which makes me think we will mask the week before spring break so we don’t have covid cancel our trip.

We asked our K son to continue masking to protect his younger, unvaxxed sibling, but he complains that he wants to stop wearing his mask because none of his friends are doing it anymore.

Did I say I wanted to know why they are still masking? I said I am glad when I see teachers who aren't masking because I think it makes for more natural interactions with the kids and benefits teaching, and I am also glad to see they are not afraid to get infected at school. I wasn't making a judgment about whether they have reason to be afraid or not. And if it's just a short term choice due to an upcoming trip, more power to them!

And the unvaccinated sibling is at extremely low risk unless they have severe comorbidities. Don't put your K'er in this position. He's probably taking matters into his own hands anyways and the teachers aren't enforcing.

DP. My 5yo masks effectively and is fine wearing his mask even though most of his friends aren't. I told him it is ultimately his choice but I prefer that he wear it until his younger sibs can get vaccinated. It's no big deal to him.

Most of the mothers on this thread do not think the largely black and brown women that make up the teaching corps in DC should be able to have any agency over their bodies (likely generally) and thus, are shaming them for choosing to wear masks at all. #fauxfeminists; #fauxallies.

I no longer care if me (vaccinated) or my children (vaccinated) spread asymptomatic COVID to someone who has chosen, despite billions of federal dollars spent convincing them to protect themselves, not to get vaccinated. As for children under 5, they are among the lowest risk in the world, vaccinated or not.

PP here. what are you talking about? I don't care who chooses to wear a mask and who doesn't, black and brown teachers included. In fact I assume they are vaccinated, mostly because its mandated by the city.

Personal responsibility and risk assessment is key here. I have fulfilled my responsibility to society by vaccinating my family. Because of that fact, we are done masking. If you haven't fulfilled your responsibility to society by getting vaccinated, go ahead and mask, or don't, I don't care. But if I transmit a virus to you that you could have easily protected yourself from, that's on you.

Huh? Who has been shaming teachers for wearing a mask? On this thread? Or is this happening in real life? What somebody did say on this thread was that some parents are gossiping about teachers who *unmasked*, saying they should still be masking. Take your racist strawman argument elsewhere.
