Union Station smells like urine, has a homeless problem, and is half deserted.

Let’s bus the homeless to the bucolic circles of ward 3

This is annoying. Ward 3 has many homeless and homeless services, which frankly I think in some ways make it easy for homeless persons to stay on streets and NOT go to shelters or more permanent help. Ward 3ers are mostly guilt ridden liberals who dole out money food and care bags like it's a birthday everyday . Enabling behavior. They should stop, give directly to charities, and call for hospitalization and rehab efforts

And the homeless LOVE to steal from the churches and ward 3 residents. They believe it's warrented. Society owes them and it's theirs for the taking.

They are already there in huge numbers, all over. Sleeping in front of tenleytown library, udc. They pack the library and churches for their racial reckoning programs, they're inside chevy chase library, around wilson...[/quote

In the W3 apartment buildings, too, straight from Union Station in some cases

The DC government is brainwashing the die hard liberals of ward 3 that they are responsible for the others troubles, "racial reckoning" is just a marketing campaign designed for ward 3 to feel guilty and empty their bank accounts into enabling efforts. They will never learn how to support themselves and the mental illness, drug abuse, criminal behavior and generational poverty will continue because they can just get a handout from the white man in ward 3.

There are overwhelming amounts of money spent on the homeless population. Money isn’t the issue.

+1. In fact, homeless people from all over the country are streaming to DC because of our generous handouts and permissive stance on open-air drug use and public defecation. It's basically a free for all!

Would you please cite your source for this statement? I googled it and am coming up blank.

We should bus the homeless to Arlington, I keep hearing it’s has left DC in the dust so they will be better able to take care of them. I hear N Arlington is lovely in the spring

I won't lie. I'm not terribly impressed by Ward 3 homeless outreach orgs. They do outreach I guess to the neighborhood homeless, but have seen the same lady parked in a bush for a decade in a small park nearby, so surely they have as well. I'd love to see some stats on how many people they make contact with each month and how many they move to actual treatment, housing, shelters, services or hospitalization? She's been sitting there a long time the rain and sun!

Ultimately I think DC needs to fix its shelter situation and have safe, managed, hygienic, supervised facilities where the homeless can stay, (and not be kicked out during the day) rather than being allowed to sleep on the streets. Don't even give them the option to camp. And, give them psychiatric screening, drug rehab and treatment, etc, and put any who are capable of working on a path to employment and self-sufficiency. But no camping on the streets, under bridges, etc. If they don't like it, they can "stream" themselves elsewhere.

Most of these people are honestly not fixable. We need to focus our efforts on preventing the next generation of mentally ill/addicted homeless people.

Take the existing homeless people to a camp out in South Dakota. Wall it off. They're ruining our nation's cities.

They should be rounded up and put in camps. Maybe get the trumpkins and gun nuts while we are at it.

I think the point is that they don’t want to ask police to make judgments, so they have designed a neutral penalty to disincentivize falling asleep on the train. If the un-housed want to stay up all night playing a cat and mouse game on the trains, then I guess so be it.

The homeless will just stay in a warm underground station on the benches or along the tunnels in between the end of the line check points where there are no police. They won't police every station 24/7. They will also just get off and switch directions just before the checkpoints to avoid detection. The homeless will be a little more inconvenienced, but they won't be stopped. The laws remain the same, so they can't institutionalize them, the prosecutor won't charge them if they are black or brown.
There might be a slight improvement, that's all. I really only believe Adams is doing this because he is being pressured. If nobody spoke out, he would have no problem ignoring the obvious and letting innocent New Yorks get murdered and injured.

Not off to the best start

WMATA is really getting dangerous, this is with very low ridership. https://twitter.com/unsuckdcmetro/status/1496284198373629957

Tonight there was a tunnel fire on the red line. 10 min went by before emergency services were contacted.

metro Transit polices the subway only. They have no jurisdiction over US proper.

I’m curious. I always thought US was federal land. When Ashcroft was US Attorney General, he required or demanded that the statutes removed and redone with covering shields. He was offended by their nudity. If he had the authority to revive and replace artifacts like that, it would seems yhst is federal property and not DC or private property. Maybe you are blaming the wrong overseer
