Counting cases is not working unless you want to shut down the economy and schools. We need to go to treating severe disease.

I can't imagine how much asymptomatic RSV and flu circulates every year through schools. We never shut them down for that before.

All you're doing is shutting your own child out of school. Thinking you can do anything to stop the spread of a highly transmissible respiratory virus is laughable, especially when the vast majority of the country are not complying. You're just using your own children as soldiers in an unwinnable war.

I have not seen anyone pushing mass testing. This is such a weird hang up. Maybe I should start. You will be guaranteed to feed the algorithm for the convenient free optional testing program.

DP and I’ve long suspected that’s why my district refused to provide onsite testing for the students and staff who went back before anyone was vaccinated.

We can't lock out kids for weeks at a time every year for COVID. Schools won't function.

We're not asymptomatically testing people at restaurants and bars. If we're not doing it to adults, then we absolutely should not be doing it to kids.

This is an excellent point, considering Omicron is a cold. Can you imagine how many kids would miss school if we surveillance tested for rhinovirus every year? Kids would never get educated.

And COVID is not going anywhere, just like the cold virus is not going anywhere.

I’m guessing CDC comes out with some revamped guidelines in light of Omicron. Current rules don’t make sense when cases transmitting regardless of vaccine status and most everyone is getting it.
