Do we test asymptomatically for the flu and RSV? RSV is way more dangerous to kids (especially infant siblings) than COVID, and flu is more dangerous than COVID to kids. We can't lock out kids for weeks at a time every year for COVID. Schools won't function. We're not asymptomatically testing people at restaurants and bars. If we're not doing it to adults, then we absolutely should not be doing it to kids.
This is an excellent point, considering Omicron is a cold. Can you imagine how many kids would miss school if we surveillance tested for rhinovirus every year? Kids would never get educated. And COVID is not going anywhere, just like the cold virus is not going anywhere.
