Fairfax County GT/AAP Decisions

the center eligibility is done on a county wide basis. It is possible that the central committee takes location as a factor, but I would be surprised.

Rating? Rating based on what? Do they have the "rating system" or whatever published somewhere?

It's the gbrs. It's my understanding that the local committee compiles the file and determines the gbrs.

How do teachers contribute to the screening process?
Teachers may refer students for advanced academic services by completing and submitting the AAP (Level IV) Referral Form. In addition, classroom teachers are members of the Local Screening Committee. The Local Screening Committee reviews student work samples, anecdotal evidence of students' academic potential, and teacher input in order to complete the Gifted Behaviors Rating Scale with Commentary (GBRSw/C) www.fcps.edu/DIS/aap/forms.html.

To complete the GBRSw/C, students are rated in four areas: exceptional ability to learn, exceptional application of knowledge, exceptional creative/productive thinking, and exceptional motivation to succeed. In the commentary portion of the GBRSw/C, teachers and educational specialists provide relevant anecdotal information that supports the rating scale.

Please note that because input from FCPS staff is included in the GBRS w/Commentary, recommendations from individual FCPS teachers will not be accepted.

I do feel like the kid who sits in the back of the car seat asking Are we there yet?
I keep checking my mail box everyday.

Pins and needles. Like when I was waiting to find out if I was pregnant with the DC, or if the amnio was okay, or if the birth was going to be okay. Par for course! LOL.

I keep telling myself that it's going to be okay...no matter what.

I put this on the other board as well, so forgive the repeat if you read both boards, but I am wondering if my son did not get in. Some families at our school (Churchill Road) got their letters today, but we did not. Do you think they sent out the acceptances first?
Anonymous
No, the letters go out together. Be worried only if you are at a school where the AART or principal has already phoned or emailed the "winners" and you haven't heard.
Anonymous
Were those Churchill Road notifications actually via mail or was it via voicemail/e-mail? I do wish that my school was letting people know early.
Anonymous
The Churchill Road ones were via mail (not voicemail or email)

If the letters were mailed yesterday I don't see how anyone actually got a letter the same day they were mailed..
