Fairfax County GT/AAP Decisions

Anonymous
I understand that the GT decisions are mailed at the "end of April" but someone mentioned to me they usually are mailed earlier. Does anyone have an idea as to when we should expect to receive the decision? Is the only way to find out through the letter? Is it a thin envelope or fat? (just kidding on that one)l Thanks a lot!

Last year they were mailed late; not until early May. Drove me nuts checking the mailbox. Letter indicating eligibility was in a thin envelope . A few people on DCUrban mom found out from the principal at their base school before the letter arrived , but we didn't.

I was one whose principal called, but apparently that was very unusual. I still don't know how she knew so long before the letters went out. I think I was called on a Wednesday and did not get a letter until the following week.

I did not have a child applying last year, but the year before, we received DDs letter in May. She got in, and yes, it was a thin envelope, I think just one or two sheets of paper inside.

I kinda wish I hadn't seen this thread b/c this wasn't really on my radar screen, and now I'm going to be checking the mailbox every day for DS's letter!

We received ours on May 1 last year.

I called the GT office today and was told that we would have the letters by the end of this week. Since "open houses" at the GT centers start on May 3rd, I think they need to mail the letters pretty soon.

Does anyone know whether they come from the AAP office or our base school? I ask becuase our base school was very late in getting out test results and it wouldn't surprise me if they were late with this as well.

I'm 14:19 above. Our letter last year was dated April 29 and came in an envelope from the FCPS Instructional Services Department. It was a "to the Parent or Guardian of Student X" kind of letter. We received a follow-up letter a few days later from our school.

Anyone go the letter today? One parent I met at the school parking lot told me that she received an invitation email from the principal for a meeting about GT topics? Does anyone know about this kind of meeting?

got

If the invitation is anything like what I recieved a few years ago it was a general outreach to all of the kids in the pool- although some didn't recieve the notice until after the meeting. Some were later accepted, and some were not. It was actually quite confusing- I thought they had stopped that practice.

Principals often do this at schools that have Local Level IV as students that are not found GT-center eligible are often included in the Local Level IV classes to fill out the class.
