Do you get a letter if your child is NOT accepted to the Level 4 program? |
No |
Depends what you mean by Level 4. Technically, Level 4 means the Centers, and the "Level 4" classes that some schools now offer - and these are two different things but both labelled Level 4. So if you mean Level 4 at the local school, then I'm not sure whether they notify you but I don't think so. If you mean the Center-based program, then yes, if a file was submitted for your child to the screening committee (either a parent referral or child was in the screening pool) and your child was found ineligible, you will be notified of that decision and your right to appeal. |
Will the "eligible" and "ineligible" letters be mailed out at the same time, or the "ineligible" letters will be mailed out at a later time? If they are supposed to come at the same time, and I have not received anything at all, would that mean the letter got lost in the mail? How can we find out? |
This was not the case last year nor the year prior. |
I'm confused by this no letter if it's a rejection thing. You'd think they'd have to tell you so you could file an appeal if you want to.
We haven't received a letter yet. If we don't get one within the next few days, what do I do? Call the school or the FCPS AAP office??? We already have DC's WISC scores so we could prepare an appeal quickly, but I'd rather have time to get the GBRS score and think about it, etc. |
I would call the Advanced Academics Resource Teacher at your school and ask for advice. |
Has anyone received a positive letter yet? |
Some here claim to have received them. |
Nobody we know has the letter yet. Maybe some do but that is not the case for most of us |
This is a good idea to prepare the appeal. I went thru this and able to get daughter in--we used WISC. Fo what's is worth, we were told that you need a WISC in the 135+ range which turned out to be true. Another family we know the kid had 132 and wasn't accepted--ours had 140. |

Thanks for the great information! |
Just got today's mail. No letter yet. Grrrrr. |
I have a question about WISC scores. My DC would meet the 135+, but only for GAI because there is a signficant difference between the verbal and perceptive reasonging and the processing and working memory scores. Her FSIQ is lower (because processing was so slow -- the tester noted that it is probably because DC has fine motor difficulties and it is written). From my research I've learned that many believe GAI is a better indicator of "giftedness" than FSIQ. Does anyone know how FCPS addresses this? Will they look at FSIQ only? I had the test doen at George Mason, so all of the subtests are included and I think it gives a great picture of DC's profile. ALso, the tester did not recommend any follow up because DC does well in school. Any expereince with this on appeal??? |
