Seriously though... let's talk parent volunteers. Dads need to get involved!!!!

Of course they were white. Poc know they can go to jail.
The real question is was it a girl.

? you think no POC students have been violent at schools, brought a knife, or a gun with intent to hurt someone? Oh my.

Jail doesn't seem to deter many people, including many POC, of committing crimes. So, even if "POC know they can go to jail", doesn't seem to be stopping them from committing crimes.

Might as well close the jails and get rid of our justice system then, right?

They are doing exactly what the therapist that MCPS was suppose to hire wound do.

I'm not opposed to a therapist in the school, but seriously, do you think ONE therapist can walk the halls and keep the kids from becoming violent?

I like the Dads on Duty idea, but I disagree with a PP who stated that UMC moms would be upset about it. IMO, it's the woke brigade who would be upset by it. They will accuse some dad (most likely white) of yelling at a kid and so the whole batch needs to be thrown out. Oh, sorry, they are volunteers, not cops paid for by taxpayers, so maybe that's more acceptable to the PP who doesn't want SROs because they are paid for by taxdollars and the entire police system is corrupt. That PP still hasn't said whether they would call the cops or not if someone was trying to stab their kid.

How is a therapist going to stop a knife fight? That’s absurd. We have counselors in the school now. They have not stepped in and stopped all the problems in these school the last few months.

I don't disagree. I'm pro SRO. Just pointing out that a therapist alone can't do much.

Might help if more of the therapists were from similar ethnic, racial, and religious backgrounds as the kids. I can speak from the experience of being an adult that is very hard to spend half a 50 min session trying to give someone context do that they even understand your issue. It’s draining and when you have a limited amount of time, it’s kind of unfair. My insurance pays for 10 sessions a year. Imagine spending 10 of those just trying to explain why the scenarios for WASP families that your therapist knows by heart don’t work for yours.

They have school counselors already and that is not helping. If you have someone violent with a knife you need someone trained to take that person down. Be real. Try working as a social worker and would you put yourself in a knife fight. Nope.

Maybe we need to use The Dads on Duty model: https://www.cbsnews.com/news/dads-louisiana-high-school-student-violence/

Yes, but they can't be all white. They must be in equal representation that mirrors the school. Otherwise, the woke brigade will get upset and accuse the white dads of singling out POC students.

If the people at these schools don't want an SRO, then they should go volunteer at the schools.

Do you sit at home making up scenarios like this to fuel your need for outrage?

No, I sit here and read how we must have equal representation of everything by the work brigade.

There's a thread about how some young black girl was saying everything was racist even when she was asked to sit down. Someone asked if the volunteers there were of equal representation of the kids in the program, and whether that organization advertises on billboards and what not in areas with a lot of POC so that they have a chance to volunteer.

I didn't make up the fact that some people think we need to have equal representation of every race in everything, otherwise it's an outrage. I believe some boe members think the same way.

They have not announced race. Stop making this about race. It’s about violence in the schools. Parents need to stop expecting schools to parent and parent their kids. All races.

Maybe get out more, talk to people and try relating. You can’t have empathy for a child expressing their feelings but we’re supposed to listen to your feelings/rants and opinions for page after page? How about you sit down now and let someone else talk? Just sayin…

At the end of the day, the county has to ask if the safety of students attending public schools is important -their decision to remove the HS SROs is telling. We have armed guards at government buildings and our politicians have security. Why are we paying ridiculously high taxes when the county can barely protect our kids. Ask the principals in private what they think of all this.

So he's calling for more mental health support for students, but where did it state the suspect was having a mental health crisis? I never saw that. Is he just making assumptions?

once again, the person who is against SROs is the one who brought up race... because SROs are bad for POC students.

But, yea, SROs don't deter crimes; they are bad for POC students, so let's get rid of SROs.

Some cops are bad, so let's get rid of cops.

Some prisons are bad, so let's get rid of prisons.

Some white people are bad, so let's get rid of white people.

Some black people are bad, so let's get rid of black people.

Some immigrants are bad, so let's get rid of immigrants.

Heck, some *people* are bad, so let's just get rid of the human race. There, now we have no race.

Yes, of course he is. He HAS to. He will never admit that we need more security to protect our kids. I wonder- does Jawando have security?

Well he can't bring attention to the fact that he was the main driver behind getting rid of SROs so now our schools are less safe.

It’s his talking point. He does not know how to handle these situations.

Of course there is security at the meetings. Aren’t his kids in fancy privates?

umm you realize SRO's don't know how to do this and are more likely to run away?

I want Sro in the schools. You are shouting at the wrong person. But, we also need parents to be parents as well.

And, we really need immigrants back since there are so many jobs citizens will not do.

Sounds like their new system works well at dealing with these kinds of incidents.
