Isn’t that team just ex Cavs team that came over? thought VLC didn’t have teams that young and both 2029 teams were old Cavs teams? |
No, they aren’t great. |
| 31 VLC is a very strong option. Played in the AAA HOCO, went undefeated in regular season and lost in the final. Great season overall. |
| The problem currently with VLC is the management that has taken over. VLC is expecting the kids and parents to recruit for the teams and not providing any marketing assistance. What surprises me is that it seems like they are not even trying to get a 2027 team back on their list… That is a red flag for new people looking at VLC. |
| Who is managing VLC now? Far as I can tell it is James Cramp, the former Cavs guy. |
So I am specifically talking about the 2029s. Back in the fall of 2021, VLC and Cavs were separate organizations and held tryouts. VLC was trying to branch out and get younger kids in the program to bolster their older ages. I.e., it is easier to bring them up through the program then try to entice great players later on. Thus, for the fall of 2021, VLC had one 2029 team and Cavs had 2. When Crabs through VLC purchased the Cavs, they had 3 teams and there was no merger or moved kids around. They basically stayed separate all last year. All three played in HOCO in the spring of 2022 - the VLC only team didn't do very well. When VLC did their tryouts in the summer for 2022-23 season, there were a lot of kids that didn't come back (mostly from then VLC team but a couple Cavs kids) or didn't accept offers. VLC only formed 2 teams - most of the players on these two VLC teams were from the Cavs teams (as you stated) - essentially, at the 2029 level, the VLC teams this year were just rebranded Cavs teams with a couple of VLC kids thrown in. I heard rumors allegedly their entire A team wanted to defect to another program (maybe to Hammers or True) but that didn't work. There were other attempts over the last year. Further, each VLC team has been bleeding players all year. |
| VLC will also be seeing more kids leaving or not showing up to tryouts with True now looking to start a Loudoun team…. |
VLC didn't do the merger, Crabs did. |
Got it - that’s really helpful, thanks for the info. At the time of the merger, was 29 the youngest team VLC had or did similar thing happen at younger levels as well? |
As far as I know, at the time of the merger the 2029 VLC team was the youngest they had. |
Cavs did have a 30 and 31 at the time of the merger (DS played on the 31 team). |
Thats what I thought. Isn't the 31 team mostly former Cavs players? I don't recall that team being very good. |
| Yes, the 31 team is cavs players. When the merger happened the youngest vlc team was the 29s. Once the new season started after the merger, the 27 team fell apart which left the 26s and above as vlc teams and anything else as cavs. Today vlc really is cavs just under the new name of VLC. While vlc had no dad coaches and stayed away from daddy ball, the new vlc has dad coaches and daddy ball. They are also kids who have played together so any new players have to break into that social circle somewhat. 29 and 28 teams are a mess. It’s too bad, vlc used to be a good option but not so much anymore. They mismanaged the 27 team falling apart and are now doing the same with the younger teams like the 28s and 29s. Not the best investment of money for the coaching or improving. Good investment if you just want to play year round and have friends on the team. |
| VLC did have a 2028 team before the Cavs merger. That is currently why 2028 has 2 teams and the team that came over from the Cavs will not go over the A team. They are a close group of parents and kids. |
What happened with 27 team - coach related or parent/player related? |
