Lots of complaints about the dad coaches on 2029 A team. I heard multiple kids left recently. I believe a group tried leaving in the fall, too, but it didn’t work out.
Not quite insider knowledge but that is an understatement. Lots of entitlement of the VLC (mostly CAVs) parents that rub people the wrong way.
in Isn’t that team just ex Cavs team that came over? thought VLC didn’t have teams that young and both 2029 teams were old Cavs teams?
So I am specifically talking about the 2029s. Back in the fall of 2021, VLC and Cavs were separate organizations and held tryouts. VLC was trying to branch out and get younger kids in the program to bolster their older ages. I.e., it is easier to bring them up through the program then try to entice great players later on. Thus, for the fall of 2021, VLC had one 2029 team and Cavs had 2. When Crabs through VLC purchased the Cavs, they had 3 teams and there was no merger or moved kids around. They basically stayed separate all last year. All three played in HOCO in the spring of 2022 - the VLC only team didn't do very well. When VLC did their tryouts in the summer for 2022-23 season, there were a lot of kids that didn't come back (mostly from then VLC team but a couple Cavs kids) or didn't accept offers. VLC only formed 2 teams - most of the players on these two VLC teams were from the Cavs teams (as you stated) - essentially, at the 2029 level, the VLC teams this year were just rebranded Cavs teams with a couple of VLC kids thrown in. I heard rumors allegedly their entire A team wanted to defect to another program (maybe to Hammers or True) but that didn't work. There were other attempts over the last year. Further, each VLC team has been bleeding players all year.
Got it - that’s really helpful, thanks for the info. At the time of the merger, was 29 the youngest team VLC had or did similar thing happen at younger levels as well?
As far as I know, at the time of the merger the 2029 VLC team was the youngest they had.
