The Trump Women and their Fashion Mishaps - Part Three

Usha needs to have her colors done. She doesn’t need to be a fashion plate, just pick some basics that work and simple dresses. Over time she’ll probably get things tailored. You have to wonder what she really thinks about the position she’s in.

Did posters do this to Karen Pence, too? I don’t remember it with quite it with same level of rancor.

The littlest boy is all of us lol, what a cutie.

I think Usha's dress is too casual.

She should have worn a Salvar Kaemez or Saree to meet Modi. I'm embarrassed on behalf of all Indian-Americans. Also she's part of the administration that shipped back over 100 Indian immigrants on an inhumane military flight. She's a POS.

+1 How could she not wear Indian clothes to meet the Indian Prime Minister???

She also met Macron in those clothes. I’m Indian and I think it was the right call to wear Western clothes. Can you imagine the MAGA reaction if she wore Indian clothes while representing the U.S.? It avoided unnecessary division.

If she were a fashionista she could have worn something Indo-Western… or at least something with a paisley print… but she’s not so whatever

Even Ivanka gave a nod to India with her sartorial choices. Probably easier to do this when you are white and a Trump kid rather than the VP's wife.

I think Usha is bordering on slovenly territory with her unkempt hair, gaunt face, and oversized clothes, but in her defense. Ivanka was actually in India/Pakistan when those pics were taken. Usha was in France when she met Modi in passing; she was not there specifically to meet him. I wouldn't have worn Indian clothes either.

There is absolutely no way Usha could have worn what Ivanka did in the bottom picture without many of you ripping into her.

Yes, I think Usha could never do what Ivanka did whether in India or not. Ivanka gets a pass as Trump's kid and as a white woman.

To be fair, 3/4 of the posts in the Trump fashion threads are pointing out how ridiculous Vanky is. I can't remember what we said about her India clothes.

I guess Usha is so bad at clothes she makes Vanky look like a fashion mentor. Usha's are bad in a totally different direction. Vanky is all Ice Capades Russian Grandma Toddler Stripper, while Usha is just waah waah sad, limp, ill fitting. If makes you long for the spectacle of Ivanka.

Usha dresses like a stereotypical DC professional. when she has to dress up, she tries hard but doesn’t quite get it.

Right, it’s like any 40something professional/mom being told hey you’ve got a wedding and a conference coming up, better figure out what you’re going to wear, except it’s 60 weddings and 100 conferences one after the other and she needs help stat.

Yes! Also like she's decided she needs one dress she can wear for both. Which is how I dress! Because I don't have a stylist or unlimited money! Can I wear this dress to a wedding AND out to dinner AND to a conference and whatever. Usha should do better than me at a bare minimum! I don't know how to wear makeup or do my hair - do better than me, Usha!

Serious question, why does it bug so many people if she looks like a typical DC area mom? It’s not offensive. She’s busy running her life I’m sure.

Looking good and dressing well is a sign of respect. It is a sign of respect for yourself and also a sign of respect for the people around you. This is how I was raised by old world immigrant parents, at least. When you are representing your country in an official capacity you should strive to look your absolute best as much as you can, not out of vanity but to show respect. That is why the idea of dressing like a slovenly DC area mom is offensive.

Melania is someone who is ridiculed on this thread but I think we all can admit she seems to have pride in her appearance and a desire to look good.

I am more offended because I am a DC area mom and I always look my best. I know a lot of moms who look good and have nice taste.

I think Usha is trying but generally seems to have kind of bad taste. Not as bad as Ivanka but not good. She seems resistant to the jewel tones that would look best with her skin tone.

She mostly looks kind of sloppy and it’s mostly not even notable enough for this thread. I’m not sure she needs a stylist- she’s not that important and she doesn’t look THAT bad. It’s never full on inappropriate.

Offended? Those are pretty strong words for some ill-fitting outfits. I disagree that she is showing disrespect. Honestly that’s a baffling interpretation.

She didn't fail in as interesting ways. Also, as a middle aged white lady, we probably had much lower expectations for her. But if she'd been traipsing around in ill-fitting glam gowns and off shoulder jumpsuits, I'm sure we'd have noticed.

I do remember the board giving praise when she got her glow up.

I’m interested in hearing the answers too. My personal theory is that people are bugged that she has such good credentials (particularly some of the lawyers) and that she is thin. Maybe other positive qualities too. It’s nice to pick on some of the things she doesn’t have, even if the posters don’t have those qualities either. I also think for some Indians there is a weirdness of Usha’s looks getting complimented when your similar looks may have been criticized.

No one cares that she is thin and went to YLS. This is DC. Thin women who went to YLS and work in big law are a dime a dozen.

It is disrespectful to represent America abroad looking so unkempt. Especially when you have unlimited assistance and budget. That is why people are irked.

And it got remarked on for days. Years. We're still talking about it.

But she has a glam and teflon quality that also gives her a bit of a pass for anything. She is obviously very confident, which goes a long way. It's different from Vanky, even, who always seems like she's trying really hard - which is part of what makes it interesting. Usha is trying really hard and looking a mess.

No because even when she was Second Lady she looked like she practiced basic grooming? She was completely unremarkable with her sheath dresses, 1” block heels, and grandma hair.

My issue is not that Usha’s clothes are ugly, although they usually are. My issue that this is a woman with time, money, and assistance to look good and she looks like she barely bothers to shower most days.

So Melania just gets to exist and she gets a pass. Ok.

None of them get a pass. They are all monsters. Melania’s fashion sense is just better.

I barely remember Karen Pence being photographed. Trump basically hid Pence away and then Pence hid his wife away. But I also agree that when she showed up she had a uniform that fit her role as boring, Uber-Christian, Midwestern mom. Usha could have a uniform of working mom from DC and hit it out of the park, maybe adding in some olaplex and a Dyson brush for her hair. For whatever reason, she seems resistant to that, but I think she could eliminate all discussion of her look with a few thoughtful choices. Maybe she’ll get there. I think she still has a little whiplash that he husband went from Thiele flunky to VP in less than 4 years. That has to be disorienting given that her YLS and post-law resume does not suggest she was gunning to be part of a political power couple (different from a legal-eagle power couple). She probably thought she’d be teaching at Stanford Law by the time the kids were 10.

I don’t think she is showing disrespect. I think that when you look sloppy people perceive it as disrespectful.

I think Usha is trying, at least a little. I wish great failure for her and everyone else associated with these fascists in everything they do.

Sane people don’t perceive her oversized clothes as disrespectful. She’s done nothing close to looking like the Hamburgler during inauguration.

Usha is a tired looking average Indian woman, looks wise no one in my Indian circle will give her a second glance, you all are welcome to fawn endlessly over her ill fitting clothes, grey hair at 39 and mile wide dark circles ( which can be easily remedied with a concealer).

Did posters do this to Karen Pence, too? I don’t remember it with quite it with same level of rancor.

This says quite a lot about you, and it isn’t good, lady.

Oh please. Yes, how horrible, she thinks someone should brush their hair and put on moisturizer before going out to represent their country diplomatically.
