Usha dresses like a stereotypical DC professional. when she has to dress up, she tries hard but doesn’t quite get it. |
For me it’s less the clothes and more the hair/face. She is a beautiful woman but I have only seen her hair look good like once (in the sad blue dress pic). And her face in the memorial pic was so haggard. These things are so easy to fix with a halfway decent professional. |
Well, that makes the Vance’s outfits all the worse. French style is very chic, not slovenly |
But she could have done something small, such as fabric or texture even if the clothes were western. |
You're absolutely right. Usha is so bad that she makes Vanky look put together and amazing. |
Ivanka steals ideas from others. Here are just two examples. She also stole a blue dress idea from Grace Kelly. Audrey Hepburn ![]() ![]() Princess Catherine or Meghan Markle ![]() ![]() |
Why would she? She was in France. |
Right, it’s like any 40something professional/mom being told hey you’ve got a wedding and a conference coming up, better figure out what you’re going to wear, except it’s 60 weddings and 100 conferences one after the other and she needs help stat. |
Yes! Also like she's decided she needs one dress she can wear for both. Which is how I dress! Because I don't have a stylist or unlimited money! Can I wear this dress to a wedding AND out to dinner AND to a conference and whatever. Usha should do better than me at a bare minimum! I don't know how to wear makeup or do my hair - do better than me, Usha! |
Serious question, why does it bug so many people if she looks like a typical DC area mom? It’s not offensive. She’s busy running her life I’m sure. |
I’m interested in hearing the answers too. My personal theory is that people are bugged that she has such good credentials (particularly some of the lawyers) and that she is thin. Maybe other positive qualities too. It’s nice to pick on some of the things she doesn’t have, even if the posters don’t have those qualities either. I also think for some Indians there is a weirdness of Usha’s looks getting complimented when your similar looks may have been criticized. |
Because she looks bad. Do you remember that dress she wore to the convention? It looked like she just woke up from a nap and was running so late she didn't even have time to brush her hair. You can have your own style in the public eye. Like Bernie with his mittens. It can be a slovenly style! But she looks like she's trying but doing it badly and that just irks |
She’s on a government trip, serving as Second Lady. She chose to go and be in the spotlight. |
Looking good and dressing well is a sign of respect. It is a sign of respect for yourself and also a sign of respect for the people around you. This is how I was raised by old world immigrant parents, at least. When you are representing your country in an official capacity you should strive to look your absolute best as much as you can, not out of vanity but to show respect. That is why the idea of dressing like a slovenly DC area mom is offensive. Melania is someone who is ridiculed on this thread but I think we all can admit she seems to have pride in her appearance and a desire to look good. I am more offended because I am a DC area mom and I always look my best. I know a lot of moms who look good and have nice taste. I think Usha is trying but generally seems to have kind of bad taste. Not as bad as Ivanka but not good. She seems resistant to the jewel tones that would look best with her skin tone. She mostly looks kind of sloppy and it’s mostly not even notable enough for this thread. I’m not sure she needs a stylist- she’s not that important and she doesn’t look THAT bad. It’s never full on inappropriate. -OP |
Yes yes, and it's part of why Melanie's Asheville outfit hit in the same bad way - it seemed disrespectful to wear leggings and a beanie when she's out in the public eye at an event for people whose lives were devastated by a hurricane. She didn't look, like, approachable and ready to pitch in - which would have made it fine. She just looked like she really doesn't care. The thing with Usha is it doesn't look like she doesn't care (outside of that wrinkled convention dress). She looks like she does care but isn't getting it right. That's not disrespectful? It's just hard to watch someone trying and failing. But then also it gets fun - I'm going to be honest - to gang up on someone who's part of the group burning our country down. I think she becomes the weak member of that nasty pack, so that's part of why we're going after her. |
