Marshall parent here, score was Yorktown 13 Marshall 3 until the last 10 seconds when classless #21 added an extra wound to Marshall. Personally, I think that scoring right before the end when you’re up by 10 is pretty unsportsmanlike and disrespectful. Talked to my son after the game and word on the street is #21 is “a total douche” (his words not mine) and acted in character. I think that players like this are contributing to the loss of decorum in this sport.

Grow up. You know you're disparaging about someone's teenage son, right? Act like an adult

Who's going to have to play them in regionals?

I don’t know if Langley will beat Yorktown. It’s kinda a toss up in my opinion. Can someone give analysis and their predictions for this great match up?

Going to be a great game, Langley has been playing pretty well as of late but Yorktown has been firing on all cylinders. I am going to give it to Langley 10-9 in a close one for the primary reason that they have been able to prep for this game for the past week whereas Yorktown has only had since Saturday.

On attack I give a slight advantage to Langley. Number two on Langley and number seven on Yorktown cancel each other out. Offensive player of the year and overall player of the year. Both are 50+ goalscorers with great vision and can feed their teammates as well. Number three on Langley and number 37 on Yorktown also cancel each other out. Both are great at finding open space and finishing around the goal. Both are 30+ goalscorers. Factor is number zero on Langley.

X factor is #0 on Langley. He did not play in the first matchup, but it looks like he may be back and if he is, he is a tough matchup for the second or third pole.

Slight advantage to Langley through the midfield. More dynamic scorers. Yorktown middies are better defenders.

Big advantage to Yorktown on defense. They have big athletic poles that can apply pressure all over the field. They are also more effective in the clearing game.

Advantage to Yorktown in the goal. They have one of the better goalies in the area. Senior with tons of big game experience.

Slight advantage to Langley in the face-off game. He will probably win more face offs and is also better at pushing the ball and transition.

Overall, Yorktown is playing just a bit better right now. It should be a great game, but I think Yorktown takes it by a goal or two.

Yorktown’s goalie might be the hottest in the state over the last few games. Langley will need to make this a shootout to win and that will take near-perfect shot placement and assisted goals. Iso ball won’t get it done.

I was at the first Yorktown Langley meeting. And it was definitely one of the better games I’ve been to this year. Yorktown and Langley both looked sloppy clearing the ball, but both have definitely gotten better sense then. #8 on Langley really stepped up and was a the primary reason Langley was able to comeback late in the game and win in 2OT. I’ve heard that #8 was moved to midfield and replaced him with #0 who hurt most of the season.

The game is going to come down to the Langley offense taking good quality shots and winning the matchups with #0 on Yorktowns third pole and #8 on the dmids through the midfield. I got Langley in a close one, 10-8.

Ranking Guy’s Week 10 -2024 VA Boys Class 6 Rankings

1. Robinson (15-0)

Results: Def. South County 14-2

Analysis: Total domination of South County. Robinson jumped out to a 14-0 lead before South County got a couple garbage time goals against the Rams 2nd and 3rd stringers. Rams should cruise to the Patriot title and the #1 seed in the Region C tournament.

Quality Wins: Madison, Yorktown, McLean, Langley, Cosby
Decent Wins: West Potomac, South County x2, Woodson, Lake Braddock
Quality Losses: None

This Week: 5/14 vs. West Potomac (Patriot District Championship)

2. Madison (10-5)

Results: Def. Oakton 9-6

Analysis: Madison looked sloppy and had a close one against a reinvigorated Oakton squad that the Warhawks beat by 14 just two weeks ago. They should still take the Concorde title but will need to tighten things up in Regional play.

Quality Wins: Yorktown, Patriot
Decent Wins: West Potomac, Chantilly, Woodson, Oakton x2
Quality Losses: Riverside, Severna Park, Atlee

This Week: 5/14 vs. Chantilly (Concorde District Championship)

3. Langley (12-3)

Results: Def. Washington-Liberty 16-3

Analysis: Langley jumped out to a 15-1 halftime lead and then subbed liberally and stopped pumping in the goals. Looking good heading into their rematch with Yorktown, which is far and away the game of the week. Winner gets Oakton which will be a tough first round Region D game. Loser gets Westfield but then will have to beat Madison to make the Region D final and punch their ticket to the State tournament.

Quality Wins: Yorktown, McLean, Sidwell Friends, Cosby
Decent Wins: South Lakes
Quality Losses: None

This Week: 5/14 vs. Yorktown (Liberty District Championship)

4. Yorktown (12-4)

Results: Def. Marshall 14-3, Def. McLean 10-4

Analysis: Yorktown took down Marshall and then beat McLean with ease in a game that was never close. The Patriots dominated on both sides of the ball and never let the Highlanders get into any rhythm. The matchup with Langley tomorrow should be a battle.

Quality Wins: Broadneck, McLean x2, Patriot
Decent Wins: Oakton
Quality Losses: Robinson, Madison, Langley, The Heights

This Week: 5/14 @ Langley (Liberty District Championship)

5. Battlefield (14-1)

Results: Def. Patriot 9-3, Def. Freedom 4-3 (OT)

Analysis: Battlefield took down Patriot easily but struggled to find the cage against Freedom, ending regulation in a 3-3 tie before putting the Eagles away in overtime to win the Cedar Run Championship. The Bobcats’ offensive struggles may have returned but the defense and goalie are so locked in that they can wreak havoc in the State tournament.

Quality Wins: Briar Woods, Independence, McLean, Freedom x2
Decent Wins: Patriot
Quality Losses: Patriot

This Week: Region B Tournament TBD

6. Freedom South Riding (14-2)

Results: Def. Gainesville 15-1, Lost to Battlefield 4-3

Analysis: Freedom found some answers to curb Battlefield’s attack and had a chance to pull out the win before falling in OT. They remain a threat and no one will take them lightly in the State tournament if they make it.

Quality Wins: Riverside, Briar Woods, Patriot
Decent Wins: Dominion
Quality Losses: None

This Week: Region B Tournament TBD

7. McLean (11-5)

Results: No games

Analysis: McLean’s scoring woes returned and the loss of #4 weighed heavy on the hearts of their supporters. With Yorktown able to focus on stopping #3, McLean could never get into an offensive flow and let Yorktown dictate the entire game. They will likely get Chantilly in the first round of Regionals – a team the Highlanders beat 11-4 in week 1 but that has been steadily improving over the course of the season. If they get past Chantilly, they will need to beat either Yorktown, Langley, or Oakton to make the Regional Finals and earn a State tournament berth.

Quality Wins: Sidwell Friends
Decent Wins: Chantilly, Woodson, Lake Braddock
Quality Losses: Robinson, Langley, Battlefield

This Week: Region D Tournament TBD

8. Cosby (9-3)

Results: Def. James River 13-6, Def. Midlothian 11-8

Analysis: Cosby started replaying teams it already beat earlier in the season and the Titans took care of business again in the two rematches. Freeman should be a decent test this week before closing with an easy game against Monacan. Cosby is solid and should win Region A but does not look like a threat to win States.

Quality Wins: None
Decent Wins: Deep Run, Midlothian x2
Quality Losses: Atlee, Langley

This Week: 5/13 vs. Freeman, 5/15 @ Monacan

9. West Potomac (10-4)

Results: Def. Woodson 12-8

Analysis: West Potomac has now won seven straight and gets a rematch with Robinson in the Patriot District championship game. They are not likely to win but should be looking to make it more competitive than the last 17-5 match. Even if they lose, the Wolverines have a decent shot of finishing second in the Region C tournament and making it to States. WestPo’s only losses are to legitimate top-5 caliber teams (Robinson, Madison, Severna Park, and South River)

Quality Wins: None
Decent Wins: South County, Woodson x2, Lake Braddock, Northern Calvert
Quality Losses: Madison

This Week: 5/14 @ Robinson (Patriot District Championship)

10. Hayfield (13-0)

Results: Def. Lewis 24-2, Def. Falls Church 19-3

Analysis: Hayfield continues to roll and we see no reason for them to drop out now. They face Edison, which pulled off an OT stunner against Justice to make the National District title game. The Hawks should win and get the #1 seed from National to face South County in the first Region C game. Hayfield won the first contest with South County 10-5 so they could survive past the first round.

Quality Wins: None
Decent Wins: Chantilly, South County, South Lakes
Quality Losses: None

This Week: 5/14 vs. Edison (National District Championship)

Also Considered: Patriot, Chantilly, Woodson, Oakton, Deep Run, Mountain View, South County, Lake Braddock, Westfield
