Valor

Lack of a training curriculum and philosophy from the top that is supposed to be passed down to the coaches? Not a good talent pool compared to other areas? All of the above? When we take our child to camps/training run by other organizations they seem to run a much tighter ship. Why can’t Valor figure this out? Maybe they will get the message when multiple “top” teams implode and families leave due to being fed up.

Are you a Valor parent? Please let us know which clubs run better because based on DCUM they are all dumpster fires.

If you think about it as a business designed to make money, and not a soccer training program, all their decisions make sense.

they have an endless stream of players from two large rec leagues to create loads of mediocre teams.

yea all have issues. But most have multiple competitive age groups. Valor does not. Poor coaches leads to best players leaving.

Awful coaches with child on the team. Verbally abusive to child, but at least they play the whole game.

So you have a coach you think is awful who also has their own child on the team who also verbally abuses the player and they play the whole game?

Yup. Plus texting mid game with parents that he's close with/are the parents of his favorite players. Doesn't even hide the favoritism. Valor is losing talent season after season because of piss poor coaching

Yes screams and yells at their own kid everytime they make a mistake. But somehow they are "better" and deserve to play the entire game. I suppose the positive is he doesn't scream and yell at the rest of the players, they just get much less playing time.

Wait, what?
Did they charge you $3000 for a team coached by a parent?

Yes ... it's not going well.

A parent coaching competitively in anything with their own kid on the team is usually hit or miss. When it's a hit, nobody says anything. Unfortunately, when it's a miss, nobody says anything either.

We had a parent coach last season at our other club and he was great. It was clear he pushed his son harder and he was loud but he never screamed at or verbally abused his players. I’d like to think the standard for verbal abuse is the same standard the supreme court set for obscenity and porn in 1964, “I know it when we see it” or in this case, “I know it when I ‘hear’ it”.

So the million dollar question is, what would you do if the coach spoke to ‘your’ DD in under same circumstance, situation, etc? Just because the coach is the parent in this case doesn’t mean they get a pass. On the field he is a coach and his daughter is simply, another player. This is one of the main challenges all parents coaching their kids at a competitive level have.

As the parents of other players on the sidelines, I'm sure it's difficult to watch and I'm sure it's likely a topic on the way home for many. To be very clear, not defending anyone and no need to put anyone on blast, but if it goes unchecked now, then the next 7-8 months will have an affect on not only his child but yours as well as the other players and it will effect their individual play and will show up on the field.

OMG, Valor is ridiculous. You shouldn't pay the same price for a crappy parent coach as you do for a professional coach.
Did they tell you it would be a parent coach when they offered your player a spot on the team?

Even worse, Valor uses the parent coaches for the weakest teams. They don't care about their lower level players, its just revenue producing widgets to them.

So its like a bad rec team, with a bad rec coach, but for a travel price.
