Democrats want the focus to stay on the opinion and not the leak because the opinion is devastating for Republicans. Republicans are trying to get everyone to focus on the leak rather than the opinion for exactly the same reason. I doubt Schiff knows who leaked it or even which side of the Court it came from, and there’s no political value for him in speculating. The substance of the decision is the better focus even if it came from one of Alito or Thomas’s clerks.

Great points here, and more reasons why a leak from the left makes no sense.

Also, the entire GOP is about to get exactly what they’ve wanted and have been working and praying for for fifty years. Why are they yammering about the leak instead of shouting their success from the rooftops?

Yeh, why aren't they celebrating? In fact, why aren't anti-abortion fans on this thread celebrating instead of griping about the leak? You wanted this, why are you upset we all know sooner? This gives you time to plan that great We Love Babies party in June.

More fun to let mass media rule up everyone into frenzied dogs.

Conservative here.

The opinion has not been announced by SCOTUS. This is a draft opinion LEAKED from some activist who works at the Supreme Court.
The leaker needs to be identified, fired, disbarred (if a member of the bar), and prosecuted if appropriate.

This person has caused untold damage to SCOTUS and to this country. But, you probably consider this person a hero. That speaks volumes.

DP. well I think the leak is an interesting angle but obviously secondary to the actual carnage that the draft opinion will cause.

Also, you don’t know who leaked it. Could been someone on your side bud.

Ginni Thomas is the most likely suspect. Yes, she has done untold damage to this country and no, she is not a hero. But we knew that before the leak.

+1
Yet Roberts didn’t bother to investigate her husband for his possible involvement in the GOP attack on America. Why? That, more than some dumb leak of something that would have been announced this summer, is far more damaging to the Court and the country.

Roberts is such a drip.

Sure she would. Justices do what they want. He could have just given it to her.

I doubt it will have much impact in the midterms. People who are really motivated on the issue were already voting. The thing is this will not impact the vast majority of people who are voting before the election. Now if birth control was outlawed that would change things.

Also everything is decided in the primaries. General election are pretty much a safe thing for the primary winners. How many truly contested house seats are there like 5? 95% are gerrymandered in to safe republicans or democratic seats.

Medical procedures are heavily regulated by states. In many cases they are effectively banned.

Who’s not using ANY of the many forms of free and assessable birth control that they are even getting abortions? At 1 month, 2 mins, 3, 4, 5 mos pregnant?

Where’s the national data?

It’s one thing if they embryo or fetus tests for severe deformities or a rape case. But even then there is morning after Plan B or a D&C early on.

Are all these late stage abortions (ie missed period for 2.5 mos then decide) drama cases where a man and woman are struggling with their “relationship” or the prospect of single parenting with no father around? Or teens taking months to decide what track to out their life on? Or older women suddenly surprise pregnant? Where’s the data?

Because a lot of women do not have access to reproductive healthcare. Did you miss the fact that we have no universal health coverage in the US? Also, it sounds like you've never been pregnant if you don't know the reasons why someone might not know that they are pregnant for a few months.

Just go to a communicate college center and get free everything. Or planned parenthood. Or cvs.

You’re a true idiot. If you’re married I truly feel sorry for your wife.

How things evolve really depends on what happens next. Some sort of legislative protection for abortion is very popular, and republicans are still politicians. Under Roe, there's been little pressure on Republican politicians to support legislative protection. Now that Roe will be overturned, there will be increasing pressure from constituents who were previously silent.

Legislative protection for abortion will be much more durable. This is a good development. I don't know why Democrats are so upset.

Because a right was taken away for the first time in history. Because it invalidates a host of other rights in order to accomplish this goal. Because it's no business of the government to be involved at all. Because this opinion massively expands government power and control over individual lives.

I am crap at searching for things I saw once so I don’t have the link for proof but due to the GOP’s exquisitely discriminatory vote rigging via gerrymandering and everything else they do to suppress specific votes, Democrats have to win by incredible margins just to win. Our votes are so diluted in many states despite the raw numbers being there.

Off the top of my head the best example of this is in Wisconsin, where the GOP had a supermajority for years in both houses despite Democrats getting more overall votes statewide.

Are you this stupid, really, or is this like some defensive reaction to not realize how Taliban your party really is? With this opinion, as written, birth control will be gone soon, too. After all, there’s no longstanding tradition of it and it’s not written in the Constitution, so it’s going to be gone.

So again: enjoy, rapepublicans!

Thank you, this is exactly what I’m talking about. I’m really not sure what Democrats are supposed to do to “take back statehouses” when the GOP has this kind of cheating built into the system.
