And, to be honest, it took 2 weeks for the Parkway People to realize what it meant. They didn't grasp the fact that it was a permanent move for nearly 2 FULL WEEKS. |
No we all knew. Hence the uproar at the Wootton Town Hall in December. It took about 2 weeks for people to get organized and again this was all intentional by MCPS. They were hoping it would take much longer than that. |
cause some of their leadership were on board until they got reprimanded by the walking contingent. How dare they be reasonable! |
Didn’t help that Taylor himself hid the ball in the first Option H issued on December 1st and was forced to clarify by reissuing it on December 3rd. |
Why didn’t MCPS disclose in November 2024 that the boundary study it commissioned also included moving an existing school into Crown? Why didn’t any of the earlier options mention this? Why did Taylor wait until the holidays to release Option H? Why propose options to use Crown as a holding school if Taylor was always going to recommend closing Wootton and moving it to Crown? If Taylor didn’t always plan this, why recommend the one option that the community almost universally opposes? |
| Truth bomb: When MCPS and Montgomery County itself are so low on funds because of so many compounding factors, it wouldn't matter if God herself opposed these options. Community opinion has absolutely no bearing when the money simply isn't there. And yes, I agree that it is appalling that we are in this spot but alas, here we are so let's please stop with the idea that it is "against the will of the people." Even if this is an indisputable fact (many would say it is not but that is besides the point), it literally does not matter. |
So financial mismanagement and failure to follow the law don’t matter. Only money does? |
Not PP, but they are correct. PAST financial mismanagement only matters in that it led to the circumstances under which they have to make this decision. If there is a failure to follow the law, yes that matters. But it is an entirely different (and very disputed) question. |

... Compare the situation to Wootton which is really about financials and enrollment declines. Not to mention having a brand new school located closer to half of the Wootton cluster than the current building which is available to use keeping from having to operate another high school when enrollment doesn’t support it. I believe Cold Spring being moved was to both eliminate concerns about Option H for them when geographically they had it the worst to Crown and possibly also because they think in a future elementary school study that parts of Churchill are moved to a Wootton (at Crown), QO, WJ or Whitman feeding ES. Like Cold Spring is 2 miles to Churchill vs 6 miles to Crown. Whereas neighborhoods in Churchill include some of Wayside near Cavanaugh and Piney Meetinghouse are 6 miles to Churchill but only 3.4 miles to Crown, or some of Potomac ES near Piney Meetinghouse and Glen are 6 miles to Crown and QO but 4 to Churchill. Or parts of Seven Locks by Montgomery Mall are 3 miles to Churchill but 1.5 miles to WJ. - RM IB alum with two kids in preschool looking to buy in either the Whitman, Churchill, BCC or WJ clusters. Great analysis by RM IB alum preschool parent. Stable AP Whitman or IB BCC [Chevy Chase MD] are easy choices. Border DC. Only 2 % of each home school students went out of boundary. Taylor/MCPS are relying on major outflow to Crown for any STEM from Churchill at 112.6% and increased flow to RM region 4 IB. MCPS boundary page https://www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/departments/facilities/boundary-study/ click on closure of Wootton and then on articlulation with Region 4=Churchill, RM, Wootton/Crown. Rockville gone where since other charts had it closing IB and in Region 4? |
Of course they do-that's not at all what I am saying here. To the extent that there is a "remedy" needed-it would be procedural and not impact the outcome. Financial mismanagement in the past is actually not relevant here. |
| The way people respond on here is comical and makes the arguments for those against the recommendation even weaker. Talk about not being able to see the forest through the trees… |
It is highly relevant if that was the pre-determined reason for pushing Option H over all the other options. This is especially important as the chronology indicates MCPS planned to close Wootton far earlier than it disclosed publicly. |
Need some objective evidence. Not an indication with nothing to back it up |
Financial mismanagement in the past IS the reason for Option H. I think all agree on that. Maybe you just think that because past mistakes were made, another fiscally unsound decision should be made today? Sort of "Two wrongs make a right" logic? Many of us think that the most fiscally sound decision should be made today, regardless of how we got here. |
