Bothers me too. Rich privilege to spend so much money on travel sports so that they can get recruited and enter great colleges through a side door.

Like the NCS and SR girls going to MIT?

Yep….especially when more qualified girls at NCS weren’t accepted, specifically one amazing student who can run circles around them.

“Run circles around them” in what area? Schools like MIT can fill their whole class with perfect scores, maybe a more holistic review creates a more dynamic class

NCS did really well this year! In a small class of 70ish, there are at least:

Harvard: 1
Princeton: 2
MIT: 1
Columbia: 1
Penn: 1
Cornell: 1
Dartmouth: 1

There will be more to come I think. With the exception of the girl going to MIT, there isn't an athletic recruit in the bunch. Nice job Class of 2028!

On the NCS note - so interesting that there doesn’t seem to be any UVA or Tulane (yet). Those schools are so popular in the region yet don’t seem so at NCS.

Depends on the year. Two or three from NCS 2023 at UVA and at least one or two at Tulane 2023 and at least one going this year.

Agree! Plus Notre Dame and several to top 20 SLACs etc..

If it makes you feel better about MIT and athletic recruiting, MIT coaches have little pull with admissions, if any.

I’d add the Duke to that list.

Bothers me too. Rich privilege to spend so much money on travel sports so that they can get recruited and enter great colleges through a side door.

Articulated perfectly. Thank you.

Really? My kid had an uw 4.0/4.4w 36 ACT and 5s on all AP exams with no tutoring or private counselors. Every kid in our neighborhood plays a travel sport. How many are college sport commits? 2 in the past 5 years which includes my kid this year. These kids also do tons of community service and other things. Grades, scores got him in the door—he committed late after acceptance. Was not an athletic recruit.

Gonzaga is the most generous with financial aid and scholarships. You are so wrong to label “rich privilege”. Check yourself.

You people hand me a laugh. You spend
99% of the time bragging about your $ and wealthy exclusive Big 3 schools and all the important and influential people who have kids in your schools and look down your noses at all the other schools…until it’s college announcement time and then you accuse the same schools you called “common and poor” as being rich and privileged.

I feel that way about legacies. At least the athletes worked hard training countless hours, in addition to their good grades and scores.

Legacies without any special talent Ex Roy family line …that’s what’s wrong.

Who were we watching during March Madness?

Hmmm…athletes. Female and male.

Maybe, maybe not. We don't know much about the socioeconomic background of those sports commits. They may have received scholarships to attend GZ in the first place, in which case "rich privilege" doesn't really come into play, does it?
