I don't know - maybe it is a coping mechanism but I see hope for our country in the way that people from all over the political spectrum are in agreement this can never happen again. The usual suspects on both sides will try to divide us for their own benefit and distract us from the real issues - but I think there is a real momentum for change that the politicians are going to have to respond to. Bringing back the assault weapon ban would pass by a landslide right now if put to the vote. We have midterms coming.

Nope. Only one side does this.

I’m so sick and tired of the “gotcha” mentality. Why don’t we focus on common ground

Where does that exist? Because it doesn't exist in the Senate.

Americans have common ground. But Republicans in office repeatedly refuse to enact legislation that respects the will of the clear majority of Americans. Republican officials. So, if you vote Republican officials into office, and you sincerely want sensible gun laws in place, then you have to stop putting Republicans in office.

No Senator represents all Americans. And the 11 smallest states combined have the same number of people as Los Angeles County. So 22 Senators elected mainly by gun nuts, and LA County, which doesn't even get 2 Senators itself.

The only pro gun control states in those 11 are RI, DE, and HI.

I think I’ve been missing some news reports you have been watching. Everyone always agrees this should never happen again. That’s not the problem. The problem is how you go about stopping it. All I’ve been seeing is the gun nuts saying more defensive measures and armed guards are needed at ‘soft targets’ (aka - every single public space in the entire country).

Plenty of people say mass shootings are horrible but are the cost of preventing tyranny by having an armed populace.

And a lot of the people who say that get a lot of representation in the Senate.

And the SCOTUS.

The answer to all of your questions is money.

Exactly.

Why did we make payment to the victims of 9/11 and the first responders on 9/11 but nothing for the teachers and children killed in mass shootings?

Good point. It’s because gun manufacturers can’t be sued. I’d like to see the Texas state government, gun manufacturers and police sued in this instance.

Since nothing is sadly ever going to change - this might be the answer. https://www.facebook.com/groups/CityOfLewisville/permalink/3195333257399202/

Tyranny is when the majority is ruled by a minority opinion. Tyranny is when we are unable to feel safe in a public place.

Yep. And use those cameras to arrest the fighters who make life miserable for everyone else.

At this point I think all teachers deserve hazard pay.

I agree. Jesus, how many teachers have been gunned down protecting their students?

Can we all agree that a country that allows this to happen to its children is just full of ugly people, not on the outside, but the inside?

Can we agree that the legislators who refuse to take action and reduce the number of the guns on the streets are ugly people?

That the people that vote for those legislators are ugly people?

Why are the red states so fat, are republicans just more gluttonous, or do fat people vote republican?
https://www.reddit.com/r/politics/comments/gwzkc/why_are_the_red_states_so_fat_are_republicans/

here is the 2009 stats for state by state obesity.

and here is how people voted in 2008

not one of the most fattest states are left leaning and nearly all our skinniest states, except a couple in the central north region, like Montana are blue.

Another example that demoncrats only care about politics and taking away all guns not just assault rifles while being fake as hell about caring for the kids.

Hey, if someone brings it up, it's fair to correct a falsehood. Sorry that wasn't the answer you wanted. You'll live. (Unless you are an elementary student, apparently.)

Not sure, and I feel like googling would be too depressing. I learned this week that there is a support group for principals of schools involved in shootings. We have enough school shootings in our country that the principals created their own network to help each other out when a new school shooting happens.
