There are definitely a fair amount of World Bank families at St. Albans. As you suggest, probably the highest concentration is at WIS (Washington International School); also a fair amount at the other DC-based independent schools (Sidwell, GDS, Maret). |
Just to add, those aren't the only independent schools in DC, just ones where I can think of World Bank families. I would think there are World Bank families at schools such as Burke, Field, and the British School of Washington also, I just don't know those schools well enough to speak to that. |
I thought people interested in St. Albans might enjoy this video of the St. Albans Lower Schoolers getting organized to have the Lower School picture taken -- saw it on the St. Albans Facebook page and thought it was cute and showed a good sense of humor. Definitely play it out to the end -- the audio after the video has stopped might be the funniest part.

Sorry, 1:34 is where the funny audio comes in (video is still going). |
Is there an early sense of how many Beauvoir boys will not choose to apply to STA this year? |
This is one of those misleading "low admit rates". It is mostly because of the denominator, that is, because they have only very few spots, not because there is a wild rush to apply to them (sure, a lot of persons apply, but no more than to the Big 3) |
The number of World Bank families in the private schools, especially in the early years, has fallen off very very sharply. This is because they ended our educational subsidy. They grandfathered those who were already at the World Bank prior to the late 1990s, so a number of those people have their children still in privates, but that number is going to shrivel quickly. For the rest of us, it is not always that easy to afford private school without the extra that was paid by the Bank. |
Does STA allow access to Naviance? |
Yes, boys in their junior year are given a passcode. |
Does anyone know if your child has to have straight A's to make it into STA? My DS has A's and B's and I'm wondering whether that's going to be a problem. Thanks! |
The numbers that count more include test scores and bank accounts. |
The bank account remark was snarky but performance on the SSAT is definitely a significant factor. Worth some prep (can be at home with a book, doesn't need to be an expensive test prep service) if this is a school your son is really interested in. |
When do the Beauvoir boys for next year's entering class hear back from STA. Isn't it before Thanksgiving. What't the early word on number or percentage of Beauvoir boys expected to enter STA this coming year? |
You must mean K. There is no pre-K at Maret. |
They just finished up their testing and visits so no word yet. |
