My kid wants to stay and play with their teammates and friends over going to another club. It is unfortunate but we are letting them lead their soccer experience. I am just frustrated with the club as a whole in general for many seasons but haven’t let my kid know how I feel. There are better opportunities out there and I was hoping doing super y with a different club would help them want to leave but they don’t. I am assuming once they get older they will make the decision on their own. |
I would move if you're going get better coaching or move up to a number 1 or 2 team which typical has better coaching in my experience.
I agree letting your kid choose his own path might be the right choice, but in the end if you want to see a increase in development then it won't be here. If you haven't seen improvement in the first year, then that should tell you something. -Keep in mind, the club only has your child for 4-5 hours a week (practices/games) so the expectation that a parent has for improvement should be reasonable. -I train my kids 2-3 extra hours on my own and we went from the last team to the number 1 at our club. I would only move if the club were not assessing that performance improvement. Valor is terrible at this where they utilize some nebulas process. -Don't expect too much from this club or movement in that regard. -Valor only has a limited number of seats and want to keep other paying parents happy (good for them) and are not willing to make a concession even though your kids might be better.... then I would say it's time to move on. All clubs do this and you just need to secure a seat at the table where the settting is providing the most opportunity (better coaching). -I know a lot of parents that went elsewhere and are much happier. Fool me once.... but fool me twice? |
Lol….true…if you decided stay. |
Worst club in VA. |
So genuine question, why do younger 2nd/3rd Valor teams seem to be out pacing in the skills/learning the game over big club teams? Are they all just going to disappear to said big clubs in a year or two? Their coaching and play style seems to work and I've been shocked watching some 2nd, 3rd,4th team games on them wrecking big club teams. However, the top teams get destroyed regularly in regular season games and tournaments where they don't play down. I can't imagine the goal would be to play for their top teams u-13 and below. |
Um, no. It sounds like the club is purposefully placing teams in the wrong tournaments/brackets/NCSL divisions to look better than they are. The 3rd and 4th and 5th teams are just terrible. |
Right. Take Valor's 2013 girls teams as a great example. Valor's Pre-ECNL team played Arlington's, Great Falls/Reston's, Braddock Road's, PWSI's, Vienna's and Loudon's Pre-ECNL teams (i.e. the top 2013 team from each of those clubs) in league play while Valor's 2nd team played Lee Mount Vernon's 2nd team, Stafford's 3rd team, Bethesda's 5th team and DCSC's 4th team in NCSL. I understand we're talking about 10 and 11 year old girls but the gap in skill level between the teams in Pre-ECNL and the NCSL's 5th division is ENORMOUS. |
That was the second team. Now imagine how weak the 3rd and 4th and 5th teams would be. |
There are no 3rd,4th, or 5th teams in that age group. |
The 2013 second team should have been in a better bracket. Their coach should have advocated for them. It was a wasted season for them playing low level and winning ever since one by a lot. What did they learn and how did they improve? Meanwhile didn’t the 2013 top team for girls struggle all last season in regular season games? |
They sure did and lost a lot of the good players because of it. Looks like they finally bumped the second team up to an appropriate div this season. |
That’s a shame for that 2013 top team. They looked good a couple years ago. Hopefully they have a good season.
Glad the second team is now in their appropriate division. |
Especially if they are supposed pre ecnl-rl next year, right? Imagine going from div 3/4 to ecnl-rl? Even if the team is good if they don't play better competition it'll be rough jumping into an article competitive League play. No hate to the kids or coaches. I hope they are placed correctly now. |
Did anyone see the Valor 07/06 RL vs Loudoun 07/06 RL game at the Loudoun Premier Cup? Valor won 5-1 which is somewhat surprising. Is Valor that good or is Loudoun that bad? Or both?

Friends tell me Loudoun has been a disaster recently. |
