Physicians Assistant yelling “HELP ME” while stealing a CitiBike ?

I'd just like to point out that it is not possible to be confused about this point. The bike is locked in the dock until it is rented. To rent it you must scan the QR code with your phone. So while their could be a misunderstanding about who was at the bike first, there could not be a misunderstanding about who rented it first. If the bike was unlocked when you got there, the other person already rented it, the end.

This idea that you can reserve a bike is simply false. You can't reserve a CitiBike in advance.

I think pp is arguing that the guy rented the bike first, then the PA ran up and somehow cancelled his bike and rented it herself. I have absolutely no idea what mechanism would be involved. If he had rented it first, it would already be undocked when she arrived, so she'd have to redock it? And then scan it herself? And then the guys redocked it a second time (with her sitting on it) and scanned it a third time?

None of this seems very plausible.

That isn't how you steal something. And the guy beside her had his phone open to the app and scanned the QR code during the video so he had already paid.

Starting to say the guys were thieves and stealing a bike really doesn't help anything about this situation.

But, why would they do that with her on it? Why not just contact the company then physically grab her and the bike to shove it back? Why make nasty comments about her being pregnant and the baby. Why film it as your first response? The entire situation makes no sense. Maybe he didn't pay already and she had paid and he was scanning it to get a receipt to show her he paid, despite her having already paid for it.

I agree it all doesn't yet make sense. I still don't know exactly what happened. The video starts when the confrontation is already underway and people often film confrontations now. It doesn't seem filming it was a first response given when the filming starts and that it is by a friend - not the guy at the bike. I don't think he physically grabs her either. Since the guys in te video haven't come forward, I am pretty sure they know they were in the wrong. I don't know who or how the video was released and we haven't heard from any of the witnesses yet as to what was going on pre video. We still only have a couple of snippets of the full story.

It's very interesting the men don't come forward, you cannot see the entire video and what happened before or after. He is physical with her if he's grabbing the bike and shoving it back on the rack or trying to take it from her. Granted she should have just gotten off the bike, walked away and if they followed call the police or go back to the hospital to security or something, just to avoid the situation (not blaming her but why stand there and risk something worse happening). At some point, the men will be identified as one had to have posted it online so it should be easy enough to identify them. And, there should be security camera's on the streets around maybe that caught the incident. But, I simply don't get why the men would bother to approach her for a bike when there were plenty there.

They both thought they’d rented the bike first, and dug in their heels. Either one of them could have chosen another bike.

This. Seems like based on how the penalties for a lost/stolen bike work, neither side was willing to just let the other leave with the bike and risk $1000+ in fines. For the guys, they physically prevented her from leaving with the bike. On her end, she went with the “Karen” defense.

PS - I wouldn’t “come forward” either. It’s nothing in it for them.

She had rented the bike snd they physically pushed the bike back redocking it and then hounded her to give it up. But sure, both sides it!

If I thought I had rented a bike someone was about to ride off on, I would re-dock it if I could. That ends the ride and your responsibility.

That being said: since there were other bikes, just move on. The bike was reset at that point: the other hospital worker and the guy in purple were the only people in the video with good sense. Either party could have done that and chose not to.

You will never convince me that she should have given in immediately. She was being harassed. The only people that should have walked away were the black guys.

As a woman, if I’m staring down a row of rentable bikes, no, I am not about to argue with a group of guys about that bike.

People have to learn when to de-escalate. They would have left with the bike, she could have picked another, and gone on her way. Now she is all over the internet as a “racist Karen”.

As you all LOVE to say, we don’t know what happened before the video starts. He could have been standing at the bike with his phone out ready to rent it and she walked up and swiped it. We weren’t there so we don’t know.

What we do know is that both sides escalated this. We do know she has been doxxed. We do know she is on leave. Was it worth it for THAT bike?

Nobody believes she was racist, but racists themselves.

Here is the definition of racist, since you don’t know what it is.

“characterized by or showing prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism against a person or people on the basis of their membership in a particular racial or ethnic group, typically one that is a minority or marginalized.”

I know you're a racist and that's enough.

He rented the bike AFTER he had forcibly redocked the bike with her on it. She has a receipt with the matching QR code. You can see him scanning the QR code 20 secs into the video. How many times does this have to be explained to you?

Presumably Citibike could confirm all of this. In fact, I bet her lawyer talk to Citibike before taking the case public.

Like her, he could have also rented it before the filming started. You’re certainly welcome to believe whatever makes you feel better. I don’t particularly care what you believe.

So your story is, he rented the bike but didn't bother to get on it. And then she ran up, pushed aside the guys standing around his bike, and jumped on his bike instead of on another bike that didn't have a bunch of guys standing around it?

Are you listening to yourself?

+1

I think the problem is that the facts of this situation are quite clear but those facts would force PP to be honest about her quasi-religious beliefs about how women are evil, particularly white women, and like anyone faced with a challenge to religious beliefs not based in rational evidence, she is lashing out.

The misogynist PP peddling that flatly absurd theory knows it is wrong, but pushing irrational and easily disproved theories is easier for her than acknowledging her misogyny.

I honestly don’t even think it’s misogyny anymore. It’s the rabid psychosis of a progressive that can’t come to terms with the fact that she’s completely and verifiably wrong.

Keep progressives out of it. It's misogyny and racism, period.

It’s certainly rabid psychosis, but that rabid psychosis is rooted in extreme self-loathing misogyny.

That's not what happened. Obviously a few hours later she checked every bike in the city until she found the golden bike for that same number so that she could get a receipt and fool everyone. I mean there's no time stamp on her receipts, so it could have been found hours later. Or maybe she had previously ridden that same bike and was able to produce such a receipt. Also, pigs can fly.

But the misogyny and racism that is on evident display here is promulgated by progressives. That’s why we are here: because of the progressive embrace of misogyny.

It’s time to have a frank and open discussion about how the progressive left has monetized and used misogyny to rise to power in the Democratic Party. That conversation is long overdue.

She was already on, and had already rented, the bike. They forced it back to the docking station - with her on it. Not sure where you’re getting the part that she stared down a row of rentable bikes and chose the one the group of guys had already chosen. Where did you read that? (Hint: nowhere)

They should be charged with assault.

No. Misogyny and a different racism are promulgated by conservatives, too. Incels invented the word "Karen" on Reddit.

This isn't about politics. It's about being a straight-up racist and misogynist.

The hierarchy of grievance that holds that black men trump white women is promoted by progressives. I'm a moderate who is feeling very done with extremism from both sides.

You’re ignoring what is right in front of you, probably because you can’t face your own embrace of misogyny. The term Karen is gleefully and enthusiastically used by the progressive left. It’s frequent, it’s casual, and it’s spoken without care. The fact that it originated in deeply misogynist circles on Reddit should have meant that all true progressives should have stood up and refused to use the term. Yet they did not. They did the opposite, in fact: they widely embraced the term. They made it popular, bringing it out of Reddit incel dungeons. Progressives made “Karen” mainstream, and we all know that.

Also, don’t derail the conversation by focusing on conservatives. Nobody is debating the misogyny of conservatives. THIS attack — and let’s call this was it is — on a pregnant PA who has been forced to flee her own house for her safety happened because of the misogyny of the progressive left. The online mob was prepared to accept the narrative of the Karen, slavered for it, in fact, despite the fact that any reasonable person should have watched that video and said “hold up.” There’s a pregnant woman out there forced out of her home because of progressive misogyny.

You don’t get to pretend this isn’t real. You don’t get to hide from the truth. People see the ugliness of misogyny in the progressive movement, and that sunlight needs to keep shining on it.
