Starting to say the guys were thieves and stealing a bike really doesn't help anything about this situation.

But, why would they do that with her on it? Why not just contact the company then physically grab her and the bike to shove it back? Why make nasty comments about her being pregnant and the baby. Why film it as your first response? The entire situation makes no sense. Maybe he didn't pay already and she had paid and he was scanning it to get a receipt to show her he paid, despite her having already paid for it.

I agree it all doesn't yet make sense. I still don't know exactly what happened. The video starts when the confrontation is already underway and people often film confrontations now. It doesn't seem filming it was a first response given when the filming starts and that it is by a friend - not the guy at the bike. I don't think he physically grabs her either. Since the guys in te video haven't come forward, I am pretty sure they know they were in the wrong. I don't know who or how the video was released and we haven't heard from any of the witnesses yet as to what was going on pre video. We still only have a couple of snippets of the full story.

It's very interesting the men don't come forward, you cannot see the entire video and what happened before or after. He is physical with her if he's grabbing the bike and shoving it back on the rack or trying to take it from her. Granted she should have just gotten off the bike, walked away and if they followed call the police or go back to the hospital to security or something, just to avoid the situation (not blaming her but why stand there and risk something worse happening). At some point, the men will be identified as one had to have posted it online so it should be easy enough to identify them. And, there should be security camera's on the streets around maybe that caught the incident. But, I simply don't get why the men would bother to approach her for a bike when there were plenty there.

They both thought they’d rented the bike first, and dug in their heels. Either one of them could have chosen another bike.

This. Seems like based on how the penalties for a lost/stolen bike work, neither side was willing to just let the other leave with the bike and risk $1000+ in fines. For the guys, they physically prevented her from leaving with the bike. On her end, she went with the “Karen” defense.

PS - I wouldn’t “come forward” either. It’s nothing in it for them.

She had rented the bike snd they physically pushed the bike back redocking it and then hounded her to give it up. But sure, both sides it!

If I thought I had rented a bike someone was about to ride off on, I would re-dock it if I could. That ends the ride and your responsibility.

That being said: since there were other bikes, just move on. The bike was reset at that point: the other hospital worker and the guy in purple were the only people in the video with good sense. Either party could have done that and chose not to.

You will never convince me that she should have given in immediately. She was being harassed. The only people that should have walked away were the black guys.

As a woman, if I’m staring down a row of rentable bikes, no, I am not about to argue with a group of guys about that bike.

People have to learn when to de-escalate. They would have left with the bike, she could have picked another, and gone on her way. Now she is all over the internet as a “racist Karen”.

As you all LOVE to say, we don’t know what happened before the video starts. He could have been standing at the bike with his phone out ready to rent it and she walked up and swiped it. We weren’t there so we don’t know.

What we do know is that both sides escalated this. We do know she has been doxxed. We do know she is on leave. Was it worth it for THAT bike?

So contradictory.

First you say that if it were you, and you walked up to a row of bikes, of course you don't choose the one bike that a bunch of guys are around. Well she probably wouldn't either, because that seems like a weird choice. More likely than not, she did not intentionally pick a bike that was occupied by or even close to a group of men, because this is not something a sane woman would do.

But then you hypothesize that he was standing next to the bike renting it, and she inexplicably walked up and "swiped it." She's a woman alone, he's in a group of men. This makes NO sense, by your own admission. If it it were what she did, she's certifiably insane.

And we have a receipt that shows she definitely rented that bike on that day (serial numbers match). So most likely she rented the bike when no one was near it, and then those guys approached.

Now did she actually "escalate" the situation? Initially she refuses to get of the bike and calls for help. Is that escalating? Or simply holding her ground. She doesn't threaten the men, she doesn't claim they are hurting her, she just spends about 60 second trying to hold onto the bike before finally giving up and doing exactly what you suggest -- renting another bike.

So even though you agree with her choices and for the most part would make the same ones, she's still in the wrong for mysterious reasons. Okay.

If my butt is already on it then yes I do want THAT particular bike. The faster I can start riding, the faster I can get away from them.

And she probably guessed (correctly IMO) that they would just follow her to a new bike. As someone else posted, this pregnant woman at the end of her 12 hour shift did not go up and choose a bike that a pack of guys were holding. She chose an empty one that looked like nobody was interested in it.

Simply unbelievable that you’re trying to make this her fault. Unbelievable you’re saying she deserved to be doxxed and put on leave for refusing to get off a bike she had already undocked.

Shame on you. The people who were in the wrong should have backed down, but they wouldn’t bc they planned to bully this poor woman. You’re attempting to shift blame bc you don’t want to admit your initial assumptions we’re wrong.

Nobody believes she was racist, but racists themselves.

Here is the definition of racist, since you don’t know what it is.

“characterized by or showing prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism against a person or people on the basis of their membership in a particular racial or ethnic group, typically one that is a minority or marginalized.”

She was already on, and had already rented, the bike. They forced it back to the docking station - with her on it. Not sure where you’re getting the part that she stared down a row of rentable bikes and chose the one the group of guys had already chosen. Where did you read that? (Hint: nowhere)

You are too smart and reasonable for the PP, who has to resort to increasingly silly theories to justify her misogyny. She’d rather believe the absurd than face her own ingrained self-hatred.

He rented the bike AFTER he had forcibly redocked the bike with her on it. She has a receipt with the matching QR code. You can see him scanning the QR code 20 secs into the video. How many times does this have to be explained to you?

Presumably Citibike could confirm all of this. In fact, I bet her lawyer talk to Citibike before taking the case public.

Like her, he could have also rented it before the filming started. You’re certainly welcome to believe whatever makes you feel better. I don’t particularly care what you believe.

It sounds like you have to be near the bike to rent it so if he was renting it he would have been right there and just said, hey, I rented this bike, can you choose another?

So your story is, he rented the bike but didn't bother to get on it. And then she ran up, pushed aside the guys standing around his bike, and jumped on his bike instead of on another bike that didn't have a bunch of guys standing around it?

Are you listening to yourself?
Anonymous
I see we're back to discussing who rented the bike first.

I'd just like to point out that it is not possible to be confused about this point. The bike is locked in the dock until it is rented. To rent it you must scan the QR code with your phone. So while their could be a misunderstanding about who was at the bike first, there could not be a misunderstanding about who rented it first. If the bike was unlocked when you got there, the other person already rented it, the end.

This idea that you can reserve a bike is simply false. You can't reserve a CitiBike in advance.

I'd just like to point out that it is not possible to be confused about this point. The bike is locked in the dock until it is rented. To rent it you must scan the QR code with your phone. The misogynist PP peddling that flatly absurd theory knows it is wrong, but pushing irrational and easily disproved theories is easier for her than acknowledging her misogyny.

She’s an idiot and a trolling liar who will never let go of her incredible hatred of white women. It’s old. So is she.

I honestly don’t even think it’s misogyny anymore. It’s the rabid psychosis of a progressive that can’t come to terms with the fact that she’s completely and verifiably wrong.
