There was a little voice over on CBS about her outfit. Apparently, Oprah Winfrey called her and offered to buy her a coat, as she had for Maya Angelou when she was the inaugural poet for Clinton. Gorman already had her coat picked out, and Winfrey ended up buying her earrings.

Maya Angelou:

Jeez, that alone made me tear up again. Can you imagine being 22 and having the guts to tell Oprah that you have your own coat, thank you very much?

Lol, I think it’s exactly at 22 or around it that you do that sort of thing

Yup! Then, 20 years on, you’re like: OMG, I can’t believe I DID that! Lol. I’m sure Oprah gets it.

OMG yes totally. To be so young and brash. To be fair, she is wearing a GREAT coat.

Might have been "But I already have a perfectly good coat for the occasion so it wouldn't be okay for me to have this person buy me another coat." Even if that person is Oprah and the cost of even a really nice coat is absolutely nothing to her.

Would Oprah have offered to buy the coats of the poets laureate had they been white? Somehow I doubt it.

You “doubt it”? Because you know Oprah just that well?

There is one woman I keep seeing over and over and I can’t figure out who she is. She has short curly brown hair, glasses, and tweed coat with sequins on the shoulders. Who is she??

Pp here - how funny, I was just wondering who she was!!

Ella Emhoff. Kamala's step-daughter. She's a student at Parsons.

Jill kind of needs a haircut. Looks too long and droopy for her age. She’d look a lot fresher with shorter cut.

Agree, it makes her look older and stuck in the 80s. She has aged beautifully but an updated ‘do would “do” her well. I was
Impressed she could walk in those shoes at her age! It made me nervous especially after Kamala had that little almost-stumble.

Having said that, as opposed to Melania, Jill looks “normal” and it is nice to see a woman not overly plastic (among other things, but this thread is about beauty and fashion). I liked her outfit including gloves.

I thought Kamala looked great. Her outfit was fine but a little bland (Jill’s had some pizazz). Hair looked perfect. On the other hand, Hillary... no, no, no. I’m sure someone already said this, but Prince called and wants his shirt back.

JLo and Gaga—it’s not Vegas! They sounded great but a big fail on the wardrobe. Was that bird supposed on Gaga supposed to be like the mockingjay in Teh Hunger Games?

Tartan baby wins the prize as others have said!

All in all, their beauty truly lies in the utter normal-ness. They aren’t perfect nor are they striving for that, and that wins big beauty points in my book.

Both Dr. Jill and VP Harris were very obviously wearing body armor. Neither of them are remotely that thick around the middle, and in photos, you can clearly see some angles of the vests underneath their coats.

I get that they had to do so out of necessity (I'm sure POTUS was wearing it too but less obvious), but it's sad that Trumper terrorists caused a need for this kind of protection.

Regardless, they all looked gorgeous - loved the color! And everyone's hair looked amazing even with the wind!

Love Gaga, but she looked ridiculous. As did JLo. It’s an inauguration, not the Grammys.

Yes, you can definitely see with Jill’s coat.

Other than Bernie Sanders, who was consistent to his own style (including mittens?), I didn't really see anyone whose clothing, hair, or accessories were wholly-inappropriate or poorly-fitted. Yes, Kamala Harris and Dr. Biden's coats looked a little tight or boxy, but that's likely because of body armor. I thought the colors they chose were lovely!

Bill Clinton's gloves made me smile. No dress/formal gloves for him!

Oops! I meant to type *headband,* not hat.

<ducks> I loved the poem and the rest of the outfit but I did not love the headband.

The coat was great and the shade worked perfectly with the blue and red of the stairs behind her. Just perfect.
