Go away, Libby.

You've called me this twice now. I have no association to Rockland and in fact had never heard of it prior to this ridiculous news story. Loudoun residents are so ridiculous. I regret moving here. I just wanted an "affordable" house. But everyone here is crazy.

Then leave. Your attitude is unwelcome here.

You're the one attacking a private land owner for behavior the court agreed with it. Maybe you should check YOUR attitude.

Are you new? There are multiple people posting here and that was my first comment to you. I DID comment about this “family” renting our slave quarters as “tenant” quarters. But keep supporting that type of person. But not here. Racists are not tolerated here.

The farm tried to negotiate and the Ferry refused.

They tried to buy the business from them. That's extortion. Sell to us or we shut you down.

False. They also offered to lease the land to them. White’s refused. Whites wants all the money for themselves. They didn’t even respond to various forms in contact from Rockland’s lawyers. Whites knew all along this was the path it would take.

Hi Libby! Good try. Go back in your hole.

Who is Libby?

It doesn’t matter anyway. The court sided with Rockland. The only one who lost anything here is White’s. So few people used the stupid thing (with all the waiting it was not convenient and didn’t save time) and it was constantly closed due to high water. I don’t see what the big deal is that it’s gone.

Libby is the new Rockland owner who keeps posting her side on Facebook.

There are like, 50 people on the planet who care about this. I bet more people show up to my HOA meeting than care about this.

The ferry transports 600 vehicles per day. It’s a vital conduit for rural populations on each side of the river who frequently cross for business purposes.

They can take Point of Rocks bridge.

+1 which happened often when the river flooded and the ferry was taken out of service.

Also, the “600 vehicles a day” and “vital conduit” made me laugh.

600 is not very much especially if some of them are doing round trip. I look at it as a novelty. If I lived upcountry and needed to get to VA on a rare occasion I might take it but it doesn't make a lot of sense from downcountry at all.

And Point of Rocks bridge is literally faster and free. This problem is easily solved and it’s kind of amazing the “ferry” ran as long as it did.

The ferry is historic and great. People like to know they can do something unique and beautiful. It’s a regional attraction.

I love taking the ferry. Loudoun is in an uproar over its loss. Pretty sure something will get worked out to bring it back.

Oh well because down county doesn't use it, who cares. Typical downcounty resident reaction.

Except to get from Leesburg to the Point of Rocks bridge requires a long trip on the narrow and congested Route 15. Local residents along Route 15 have "lobbied" ($$$) to prevent its widening. Sure, the ferry is primitive and quaint, but it really helps me lower my blood pressure compared to either driving up to Point of Rocks or (the horror!) the American Legion Bridge at rush hour.

I have enjoyed the ride across the ferry and acknowledged its historical relevance.

But, you can't operate on private land and not pay a fee or for the licensing.

Someone can buy it and deem it historical with cultural heritage and no one can really touch it.

Live nowhere near it and have no dog in this fight but I like the ferry and that it is old and low tech. What’s not to like about it? I dislike that the farm owners are gouging this business just because they can. They may have the legal right but that doesn’t mean I need to like them. I never gave that farm a thought before this but now I would never patronize anything there and if I had the chance to vote on something counter to their interests I would. Just seems like a well bankrolled pleasure farm bullying the ferry for tons of money.

Uh, the traffic data suggest practically no one (upcounty or downcounty) uses it. 600 vehicles a day, and many of those vehicles crossing twice? Give me a break.

Rocklands gets massive tax breaks already for conservation etc. I am on Team Ferry.
