People have been comparing her red dress to the dresses on Handmaid’s Tale

I like the purple blazer and blouse. I probably wouldn't have picked that combo for the hearing, but it is fine and not snark worthy.

I'm the PP who talked about Warren - and I think the person you are responding to is onto something. Clothes on a hanger are different from clothes on a person. On a person, they have a form and an environment - and they have a social/cultural context. Just on their face, I think her clothes are way too casual for a Sup Ct confirmation hearing. This should be the grandest of affairs, and I think it's frankly disrespectful to the country not to dress for it. But even outside of that, I do think PP is right - that with Warren, her uniform fits with her persona as a hard worker who is always on the move solving problems and making things better for all of us. With ACB I think these casual clothes represent a kind of entitlement - like she thinks she doesn't even have to work to be here; being a woman with a lot of kids who is clearly anti-abortion and is beloved by Fed Soc is enough. She has nothing to prove to any of us - she knows the jig is in, and her careless clothes tell us that story, just like her empty notebook said it to us.

You have spent way WAY too much time analyzing this. Her clothes represent her entitlement? She is nothing more than a woman with a lot of kids who doesn’t believe in abortion? I would love to hear your theories on Obama’s sleeveless dresses and other outfits - what does that represent? Some people just pick clothes they like without ascribing deep meaning to them. Seriously, your post is beyond absurd.

"People" have been saying stupid things since, well, forever.

Fortunately, she’ll be wearing a black robe soon enough.

Was she dressed much differently than Klobuchar, Feinstein, Hirono, Ernst, Blackburn, Harris etc.? Perhaps Klobuchar and Ernst are the best “comps”, given age and geography.

Anonymous wrote:I disagree with her politically but on a superficial level I think she's attractive and her clothing has been very appropriate. Laura Linney could play her if they were doing a movie or TV version. She looks like she could be Laura Linney's sister or cousin.

It was bugging me for days who she reminded me of, and it’s Maura Tierney.

And her tenure on the SC will be forever tainted by the circumstances surrounding her nomination.

Nominated by a duly elected president and confirmed by a majority of the Senate? Tainted only by those willing to persuade the weak-minded that a vital institution should be devalued.

And well-dressed to boot!

Handmaid red dress on her first day.

Appropriate for the occasion.

The Senators above seem to have a uniform, at least for hearings — the wool blazer and silk blouse. Serious, professional, boring. No surprises there. Barrett only wore that on the third day, and even then with more style — but maybe a little less “professional” (aka boring).

I am still astonished/laughing that, as I am walking around my day-to-day life, there are apparently people like some of you PPs who think my highlighted brown hair is blonde.

DP. Obama often chose specific designers as a statement so you're maybe not making the argument you think you're making.
