The Amy Coney Barrett fashion thread

I think she needs better make-up or something, because she always looks washed out. Maybe it's a matter of not picking her colors correctly for her skin tone, though, since I don't think she's in a role where "heavily made-up" is a look that would work.

Like Kayleigh?

I think the dress is lovely. It is a color I love to wear. But I think it is not a politically astute move.

Can you explain the handmaiden tale connection?

i like the dress. I think for a Senate confirmation hearing to a Article III judgeship, you wear a suit. I'm a lawyer. My female judge had a very strict "suits in chambers" rule, so I admit I am a traditionalist. But I would not wear a dress like this to Court or to a Senate hearing of this nature.

I like the dress too. I think a surgical mask would look better than the black mask.

Twisted fundamentalist regime where Woman are property and don’t control their bodies or have reproductive rights.

Very apt outfit

I was just going to say - it seems like trolling the left to wear that color

As a member of the left, I feel trolled

If it weren't for that association, I think it's a fine dress. Not as fancy as I'd expect for day one of my confirmation hearing. Looks more like what you wear to a firm when you don't know if you're going to have an unexpected meeting.

This looks like a great brand for a justice to wear! But I still think she makes bad color choices for her skin tone. I suspect she would look better in earth tones.

That doesn't look like a 425 dollar dress. Looks like something from Kohl's or Macys.

I think a "business" dress is totally appropriate for a hearing, and I am also quite traditional and a lawyer. I think she made a good choice.

And ACB is a member of a twisted fundamentalist group where she held a leadership role called "Handmaid".

But.. the dress isn't the handmaid's red color. It's a purply-pink.

I don't agree that she should have worn a suit. I think it's very appropriate and I don't think there is a need for any woman to wear a suit any more. It's an outdated idea that says suits - i.e. what men wear - are more appropriate for formal events. Women's formal wear can be different, and a formal dress is appropriate.

That was my favorite dress of their collection, but in blue.

Huh. At first I thought she was going for a more business/professional version of Nikki Haley's "non-threatening smart, powerful women" from the RNC. But now I agree, she might also be trolling us with a take on the Handmaid's Tale.

I also agree with PP attorneys that, as an attorney, I can't imagine not wearing a suit to this hearing.

What an exciting thread! Two pages and ONE photo! So much context, can't wait to see her in a black robe.

I am an attorney and regularly in professional situations where men would wear suits as business attire. I sometimes wear suits, sometimes business dresses. Both are business attire for women and we do not have to wear a suit to be appropriately attired. We can, but don't have to.
