That’s sad. I think freshmen should be high priority. Seniors too for job searching.

The colleges that are focused on freshmen are just trying to ensure they don’t defer and don’t enroll elsewhere. Introductory level classes are the easiest ones to do online from home. I am actually impressed with NU’s unique plan to bring back those that have higher level courses and labs that require on campus facilities.

I'm not "impressed" with any school that can't bring all its students back. This thread has many examples of schools that have figured out how to conduct massive testing and necessary isolation. I don't understand why that can't be replicated at schools like NU that have the resources (i.e. very large endowments) to make it happen.

I think AUgust 28th is really early to think that any schools have successfully brought students back.

I think the PP that is impressed, must have a student that is a JR or a SR!

We expected NU to pull this last minute stunt and our DD (a sophomore) is already physically in Evanston. She has virus inducted cough variant asthma and no way in hell is she getting back on an airplane to come home. What I do not know is if students already living off campus will be allowed access to common campus areas, such as the libraries. Anybody got any ideas about how that is going to play out?

I would highly doubt they will keep any parts of the campus open to off campus students. It exposes the staff and costs $$.

I have a Senior loving off campus at a different school and since the school has now gone all online the on campus buildings like rec center, library, etc aren’t open to those loving off campus.

Only the university itself would know that. My son’s kicked everyone out of housing but freshmen and they are allowing others to get off campus housing and still take classes, have meal plans, use the libraries, etc...but I see it as a huge infection risk to both the campus and the town.

Especially when so many of them had to switch to virtual instruction already!

JMU has spiked up to 390 cases after the first day of class. University has announced classes will go online and students in dorms should move home.

My daughter school kicked off Sophmores, Juniors and Seniors off campus in early July as plan was only Freshman on campus. And hybrid learning for upper class man.

They flip flopped and not it is nearly all remote. My daughter and all her friends have locked in leases.

The town has around 20,000 kids living off campus in a school that is not open. My daughter likes it a lot. She has a job, independence, roommates, friends in town.

But issue is school only gets home addresses and not apt addresses. They have no clue who is there

Please stop. Knock yourself out on the Politics Forum. I would also suggest that you spend some of your leisure time researching information on federalism and the public health system in this country. On this Forum, we are trying to talk about colleges.
