St Albans for black students

NP. How many boys are leaving? Have not heard about these incidents but this class has a lot of Trump, Kavanagh, and other GOP supporters and they are in your face about it. One of the parents purposely provokes other parents.

In grade 8 I think there are only three boys leaving this Summer, one of whom is a diplomat family and has to return to their home country. Two others are transferring to other schools in the area. Not sure how accurate but an STA parent told me this the other day because I was asking them about waitlist movement.

Are the two students leaving for other schools students of color? Because that class can't get much more white. It's a very non-diverse class.

Hopefully that class is the last of an old mold.

Yup. They troll anything about Coronavirus, race, sex or Trump.

I don’t know about the physical violence, but the racism part is true. I know first hand that more than one black boy is going to a different school for 9th because of the several incidents that have occurred in the 8th grade and the poor response from the administration. If anyone was on the Zoom virtual graduation for 8th grade they can confirm that multiple kids of colors replacing. There have been at least three incidents of the use of the N word in the 8th grade that I know about. There were two Form II Meetings about it; the head of school spoke to the boys for the second meeting. And then then “N” word was used again. The original poster was correct about blowback. Apparently one of the kids who used the N word in the winter also used it in the fall but the two events were not publicized. You may not think it is true because not many white patents know the details, but some do. The St. Andrews response is what families of the targeted kids were looking for and they didn’t get it and never will. Say what you want. Call the person a troll or a STA hater. But these are not “alternative facts”and anyone who cares to just scratch the surface will find out that what I am saying is true. At the very least any parent from the 8th grade can verify that there were two meetings about the use of the N word and that kids of color are leaving. One boy I think is actually leaving the country and it may not be bacause of race (I can’t remember for sure) but the others are going to different schools. These incidents are not unique to STA but that is another thread...

NP. This is concerning. Many parents do not know about this. Was this a parent form meeting? The use of that word is never acceptable but can you clarify the situation a little bit? Were boys calling other African-American boys in the grade that word or were they using it singing a song or something else? As I said there is NO excuse I’m just trying to figure out what happened.

Watch out....they're getting the broom and starting to lift the rug. "Singing a song" with it? Really? Or no, let's blame the victim. Maybe it was the "African-American" boys saying it to each other. Yes, that must be it. Really?

Twice and no suspension? That one kid sounds like a really bad egg.

If that’s true, the offender should have been expelled as the boys were a few years ago

Why not just say exactly what was said, to whom as well as who reported it and to whom

STA does not condone this behavior. In the prior incident the school actually had proof of the incident as it was a picture sent out. It was horrendously anti-semitic and racist at the same time. Although this is not the first issue with some of the parents in this grade. Thankfully for some of these families the STA community is pretty tight lipped because I can not imagine some of the past transgressions going over very well in certain professions or positions.

So speak out and speak up. If there were ever a time for all of these institutions to get better, it's now. Coming on here and cryptically suggesting that there are hidden indiscretions is pretty cowardly and very passive aggressive. How upstanding of you to suggest that things have gone wrong while providing zero details. You don't even have the courage to say anything on an anonymous forum.

As said STA does not condone this behavior and the behavior I’m aware of happened outside of STA and is not school related.

Any for St Albans ?

STA has numerous positions where students elect the leaders: councils/prefects, athletic teams, vestry. Black representation over the last 20 years for that is a good indicator especially on prefect. When I had a kid at STA AA students had a range from wealthy on down just like everyone else.

What really needs to happen is that it is banned from rap music. This is why all the white kids are saying it.

What really needs to happen is that white kids just stop saying it.

I was thinking the same. Why doesn’t Saint Albans have a paige? It concerns me that black boys and men who have attended Saint Albans are silent on the issue. Even National Cathedral has a paige.
