St Albans for black students

How is STA for black kids? I am hearing not that great! Any more insights from current parents?

The silence should give you your answer.

My observation is that STA has about 30%-40% minority kids depends on classes and grades. What bothers me is the rumor that they don’t like Asian kids. I am not sure why this race was picked.

The admissions office (of any school) will give you the contact information for some other black families who have volunteered to talk to prospective families. They will hopefully be honest and not just a cheerleader.

The school has a number of different ethnicities and several mixed-race kids as well. No idea where the Asian claim comes from and we haven’t noticed it at all (we are an Asian family at STA). There are also probably a half-dozen boarding kids from Asia in the upper school.

The school would be more than happy to put you in touch with families who will give you a more direct answer than a message board.

Great, not only black issues but also Asian?

I don’t know what’s going on this week, but it seems there is a single person who keeps posting about sta and everything they want to hate about it. Across threads. It’s weird.

What do you mean, “don’t like Asian kids?” Like, they’re racists, or like, Asian isn’t a plus factor in admissions?

Ummm - have you seen the Sidwell rants?

Or that this was posted after 1am and not many people are on-line between 1am and 8am. But you find your own reasons to fit your agenda and ignore the obvious.

Oh the haters are out in force all over this forum. I was referring to this thread and a couple others with sta, but I don't disagree--someone/some group of folks with major anger and hate is on here a lot.

There is a poster (or two) who have a real thing against STA. They slam anything posted about STA no matter what the thread is about. STA Lacrosse? STA College Prep? STA Student body?--doesn't matter, they just go off on the school for their own reasons. Might be trying to keep down the competition for their own kid or bitterness their kid didn't get in one year. Or just general anti-private school hate. It's a pretty regular thing and from their posting style and language you can usually pick them out.

Sidwell took gov bailout funds. They deserve it.

It's pretty heavy handed this week. Someone is posting that sta is racist against multiple groups. It's elevated, it seems

Not an STA parent but I would check to see if the school as a Black Student Union or club. I would see what the charter of the club is and how active they are along with how many members are enrolled.
