St. Albans lax

And if Bullis is the best, a short manned STA squad should not be in the game with them. Should not be close. Considering the quality of the kids who didn’t play for STA, and assuming Bullis was also not missing players, I would suggest, best on best, STA wins.

This has to be a facetious comment, right? No one who knows anything about lacrosse would suggest the starting 10 of STA is better than the starting 10 at Bullis. Appears a lot of DI coaches also wouldn’t suggest this either.

Actually STA Bullis game was competitive for first half the other day.

This was a reference to the 8th graders and their game. Bullis won by 1 and STA had many really good players not playing.

Neither my son nor I attended either school, so I have no dog in the fight (we are a Prep family). Let’s compare average salaries of STA graduates to Bullis graduates at their 20 year high school reunion. Who do you think wins? That’s thee only statistic that matters.

The boys love the sport and the opportunity to play against some of the best competition in the nation. Yes, losing more than winning is not easy. But as they say, that builds character. My son has graduated. He had many great experiences at the school. But bar none, memories of his lacrosse seasons and the bonds he forged with his teammates and coaches are some of his best HS memories.

By that measure the future of the program is good.

Since this post, the assistant moved up to be HC. He's doing great with the boys. I don't know how aggressively he is "recruiting" NL players, but there does seem to be more on the roster than in recent years where it was Madlax or VLC that had numbers. Also since this post there is a new AD. He understands that the most vocal critics of STA sports come from families whose boys are involved in the helmet sports. You bet he's going to focus his efforts on developing those programs. Make no mistake, STA will not be winning any IAC titles in lax or football anytime soon, but there will be marked improvement even within the next few years.

Is Bullis considered the best Lax school right know? Am asking cause I don’t know but the STA 8th graders - while lacking a few of their best players - just dropped one 7-6 to them. I think the current STA sophomores and the best players on the 8th grade will be very competitive in high school.

Hate to burst your bubble, but Bullis is no longer the best in the IAC. Prep proved that last week and is now ranked higher both locally and nationally in every updated ranking. Bullis has some strong 2021 seniors, but after that they fall off. Even their JV squad (their future) is very weak and got blown away by Prep’s JV team. Prep is the lax powerhouse currently and will be for the next few years.

STA may have a few strong players here and there, but they have a very long way to go to compete on the same level as the top teams in the IAC. Just watch the Prep/Bullis game vs any recent STA game and you will see the difference. They’re in a different league.

Hate to burst your bubble, but every year starry eyed STA parents hope that things will have turned the corner. And every year, the buzz saw that is the IAC slices and dices those hopes and dreams. Look, STA has a solid program, with solid players who play with heart. But they are in the IAC, with the likes of Bullis, yes the best lax school right now, but with other nationally ranked programs. To top that off, they also play schools like Zaga and SJC and Dematha which just adds salt to the wounds.

All that being said I will say that even with losing, the boys on the lacrosse team are year in and year out incredibly tight and seemingly happy despite their miserable lot in the IAC lax world.

Perhaps. But two things: the 2019 soccer team certainly showed that STA can compete. Secondly, this 8th grade team has beaten everyone else - Landon, Mater Dei, etc pretty easily in basketball and lacrosse already. Lots of sons of D-1 and even former professional athletes in the class. While there is not perfect crossover, I have been told that previous classes never beat those other schools, let alone win games going away like that class does. With only 80 or so in a class, the margin for error is certainly small so it may not come together but they are starting from a better place than usual for STA. Add the kids in the 2023 class who are seen as some of the best LAX players in the area and there is hope.

STA's 2023 class does not have some of the best lax players in the area. That is laughable. They have a good fogo and LSM and maybe a defender, but that is really it. Two All American team members in the sophomore class does not make for a "class who are seen as some of the best lax players in the area". Don't get ahead of yourself, other schools have FAR (like double or triple the numbers) more team members who are truly considered the best in the area and nationally.

PP here. When Prep came from behind to score 6 straight and beat Bullis in lacrosse, the Bullis parents gave the Prep players the middle finger. When Prep came from behind and beat Bullis in football in 2019, the Bullis coach called one of our players a silver spooned pu$$y. I’ve never heard or witnessed such behavior from Landon, STA and Gonzaga people. Just saying.

Guess you didn’t hear the Prep live stream last week vs Bullis? Announcers and parents?

Bullis beats STA 18-4. STA just can't compete in this league with the top teams, not the same caliber. Top STA players may seem great compared to their STA peers, but when compared against real top players in IAC they can't compete.

I heard a lot of cheering (some loud and a bit obnoxious) but no vulgarity.

Thank you. That was exactly my reaction to this disgusting comment. Dollars earned is far from the “only statistic that matters.” If you’re raising your son that way, I feel sorry for him.

Can't we all agree that the score differential from a HS game/season and w2 20 year after graduation aren't the only yardsticks - athletics benefits all students. I would rather have every kid become a high net worth individual which provides independence and power to make life choices - a 14 goal margin doesn't buy anything today or 20 years from now.
