Here’s my reality check with real scores:

Cogat National 99V, 98Q, 99NV
Cogat MCPS, 96V, 93Q, 95NV
MAP math 240s, MAP reading 230s
All As
High 5 on PARCC math, high 4 on PARCC ELA

Recommended for TPMS, wait pool at Eastern

School with moderate poverty rate. No prepping for tests.

PP above here, forgot to add my kid is not currently in a CES.

Congrats, but your kid (and my kid) would have had no chance coming out of certain ES areas, CES or not.

How low are your children's scores compared to the local level?

Mine is 71% nationally, 22% locally! Should I be concerned?

But my kid actually got in and the rest of you are just strangers speculating online. I know for certain what it takes to get in because my kid got in and it’s not what is claimed here.

99 national, they don’t provide a composite for the MCPS figures.

No. I wouldn't be concerned.
71%tile nationally is not problemlematic.

Your MCPS percentile is compared to a much smaller group of students who were "handpicked" to test. Because so many able students took the test and the sample size is small, a large number of very high scores will lower the percentiles of those typically in the middle. Remember, unless your child goes to an ES that is a direct feeder to TKMS, EMS, CMS, or MLK MS not everyone took the test, only those who were invited based on high data or their parents requested.

You might want to look at the raw score and the learner profile on the parent score report/website for more helpful information about your child as a learner.

Too bad, as that shift could have been the most interesting observation.

DP. Which areas would have no chance?

Yes, agree I’d like to know that too. There’s not a lot of info from the acceptance letter.

Congrats to you and your child, PP!
My DD is recommended for Easter and not recommended for TPMS.
Cogat National 99V, 99Q, 97V
Cogat MCPS 99V, 99Q,90MCPS
MAP math 250s, MAP reading 240s, all As, lower 5s on both PARCCs.
WJ cluster, currently not in a CES, no prepping for tests other than one CogAt book from Amazon.

Frankly, I thought DD had a better shot at TPMS than Eastern, since her MAP-M have been high all along, but, I guess, a relatively low CogAT NV did her in. I'm not complaining, though, we are going to the open house.

Waiting for the Cold Springs parents to show up and start throwing up.

Congrats! What does your daughter think - was she more interested in math and science? When is the Eastern open house? I’m interested in hearing more in case we get offered a spot.
