APS: Think the "no move" campaign is going to work?

No, but it will be on Feb 6.

Remember when the superintendent declared the swap a done deal? I think they want the change, but I won’t be shocked if it falls through. I’m ready to move on to the next phase of the boundary process, which will probably be a bigger hotter mess than this.

Yes it will! I wonder how many people realize that every school will be impacted by boundary changes. Can't wait for the yelling when they realize.

They backed off the swap and it came roaring back as these school moves. If they punt again it's just going to come around again as a boundary change option next fall. I think they have realized that.

Oh yeah. Right now you only have factions from three schools complaining. The boundary process is going to piss off a whole lot of people because it's *their kid* who has to move schools.

No, he’s an idiot. Anyone who understands a boundary process knows you can’t say for sure how many kids will move until the boundaries are done. He’s posturing and being difficult because that’s what he does. But he never actually does anything more than that.

He passed on very specific questions that were clearly posed to him by members of the public.

yeah- he was trying to repeat the Key talking point, which only makes sense to those who are within the Key boundary- that somehow they will still need more seats in the Rosslyn neighborhood so thus the move is pointless. First part true- second part- uh no- it will give them 600 seats- that's a good start.

I continue to be baffled by this argument. “We can’t fix everything completely right now, so let’s make things even worse instead.” Huh?

Can anyone from Key explain how their magical alternative proposal creates more seats in the R-B corridor than adding a whole school worth of neighborhood seats? I don’t understand where they think these seats are coming from. Are they really just pretending like pushing Long Branch kids west and filling those with kids from Courthouse is creating more seats than moving immersion and filling Long Branch AND Key with neighborhood seats?

Saw at ASFS they are having music classes outside due to lack of space - something needs to be changed soon. https://twitter.com/ASFSOnline

Not sure what you want us to do

That and is there a reason they aren’t using the stage? Or the stairwell? Seriously I think that sometimes the administration at that school really will do anything to make their point.

The stage is used as music classroom now. Probably used by the other music teacher during that time.

They do lots of small group work, parent meetings, and testing in the stairway already.

Have you been there recently? It’s beyond FULL. Several new kids just registered in January. It’s just going to get worse as these new residential buildings open.

Lisa Stengle said last night re: Abingdon that the same scenarios as 2018 were going to come back because it's overcrowded. I assume that means part of Fairlington to Drew?

Yes. MANY more students will have to change schools via boundary changes if we don’t move programs. Not sure people realize that...

And MORE kids will need to change schools if the programs don’t move.

Even after they move schools, every school will have boundary changes.

No. It means apartments south of columbia pike will go to an expanded Barcroft. It will make Barcroft like Carlin Springs. The CIP anticipates growth on the west end of the Pike, meaning move the kids to Barcroft. I heard it directly from a school board member.

Yes, but fewer kids will need to change neighborhood schools.

No, because that SB member doesn’t know their a** from their elbow. That’s not happening. Abingdon needs relief, not Barcroft. Some bus riders to Abingdon are taking a bus to the half-empty and adjacent Drew.

That’s not what is happening. They said it LAST NIGHT. Abingdon, NOT Barcroft.

As much as I love the poster always salivating to stick it to South Fairlington, the truth is it’ll probably be another neighborhood like parts of Columbia Forest or as mentioned above, the apartments along 4 mile run or the pike (all of which are far less middle class than Fairlington) that’ll probably move out of Abingdon.
