College Counseling at Sidwell - One Year Later

She deserved the top job and didn’t get it—-I can’t blame her for leaving...

Well i hope she still worked hard this fall for the seniors. Tough to imagine you'd really give it your all, especially in writing letters, when you know you're leaving asap.

Do students get to see the letters that the CCO writes on their behalf?

If that is why she is leaving then it is misplaced. She certainly isn't seasoned enough and leaving a few weeks before most of the application are due really leaves 1/3 of the grade in a bit of a lurch.

No.

It is the height of unprofessionalism for a high school counselor to leave before the job before May 1st. I am so sorry that your children have to deal with that. I would be livid. It is not fair. This is apparently not a health crisis or anything; she accepted another job! Unbelievable.

(I am not a Sidwell parent. I am one of this MCPS lurkers who wants to see what I am missing by saving 40k per year. Learned a lot over time, both good and bad)

Why not?
Then how did people know about the counselor from last year who had errors in his letters?

If SFS knew she was looking elsewhere, they should have let her go and hired someone else. How could they have faith in her performing at 100% if she was disgruntled?

They read what he wrote. Awful and painful.

Then shouldn't this counselor's students see what she wrote? I haven't met her and she may be very professional, but she also could have completely given up.

What makes you think SFS knew she was looking elsewhere until last week?

Who is "they"?

No advocacy. No real recommendations. Just saying nothing is a sure thing. Not a helpful bunch.

Parents began to notice that in even routine communications, the counselor couldn’t write.

Maybe the parents this year are just as bad and she just couldn’t stand it anymore.
