Not true. The county has notified of release dates for years. That hasn’t changed.

A little late for that. The girl has already been traumatized for life. A lot of good that does. MoCo is a failure.

MoCo never had them in custody before. How is this the County’s fault?

b/c ICE has them now - AFTER the fact

Vetting them, instead of accepting everyone and refusing to ask for documentation - is proactive. The county - and the schools - let down that child and her entire family. If they're here legally, can you imagine how "safe" she and her family now feel? What protections are offered to people who arrive through legal channels?

It's a disgusting case where everyone BUT the victim had rights protected.

ICE does not have them. They are in jail in the County. They will stand trial on these charges. It will be a long time before ICE gets them.

If you have a problem with their documentation, ask their employers.

It's not "backtracking"... he is just explaining that MOCO will and always has worked with ICE when it comes to violent criminals.

Do you have reading issues?

No, that is not what his message said. Read again:

Elrich's statement of August 14, 2019 wrote:The new Promoting Community Trust Executive Order has not changed the County's policy on cooperating with ICE requests for notification of the release of individuals charged with serious crimes.

Basically ICE needs to monitor Montgomery County and issue requests for notification of release of individuals charged with serious crimes. There is no policy to automatically notify ICE of the detention or release of any suspects. ICE needs to make an explicit request for notification. If they do not notice that a suspected illegal immigrant is being detained for a crime, they won't be able to make a request. The county will shield such suspects unless the incident makes it into the news, ICE hears about it, and submits a request for notification. So, if the two news stations hadn't picked up this story, ICE would not have known about it and would not have made the request and MoCo would have never alerted them. And then these two could be released to disappear into the wind and find someplace new to commit more violent crimes.

Yes, they have notified for years. But the new policy is that ICE needs to request notification now. MoCo employees are explicitly restricted from contacting ICE without ICE contacting them first. Notifications are now only give when requested. If ICE does not hear about the case, and explicitly request notification, such notification will not be given. That's the change.

I would definitely like to know what demolition company Barrera-Navidad worked for. Must have been something local in Montgomery County. Agree completely that employers need to be held responsible for hiring illegal employees.

https://wjla.com/news/local/men-rape-minor-md-girl

From the link:

"According to court documents, Mauricio Barrera-Navidad was born in El Salvador, has four children and works for a demolition company. Up until his arrest, he was residing at his brother-in-law's home along the 25900 block of Largo Court in Damascus."

There is apparently less information about Carlos Palacios-Amaya.

Barrera-Navidad basically lived walking distance to Jimmy Cone? And to Damascus Elementary. So disturbing.

How are sanctuary cities supposed to work? This one sure didn't! That poor girl. No one, not even her mom (is she even around) would protect her and turn those filthy animals in.

ICE knows when everyone is arrested, through fingerprint records sent to the FBI with every arrest. They know almost immediately. And yes, the county still proactively notifies ICE of certain releases. That has not changed. Section 8 of the EO is clear about that.

Omg dumb ass!

It has not changed... moco worked with ICE before, they currently work with ICE and the continue to work with ICE.

Nothing has changed.

Moco has never had a violent criminal in custody without notifying ICE.

What they don’t do is ask witnesses for citizenship status.

Agree. Had those two media outlets not reported on it they probably wouldn't have turned them over.

The story wasn't even widely publicized. Thank you to WJLA and FOX for getting the story the attention it needed.

What happens to the kids whose story doesn't get picked up by the media?

The ones committed against white girls by white men? They are prosecuted and let out in18 months so they never go to prison, they stay in jail.
