I know they are just showcases but I find it interesting that NPL as well as future DA club finished ahead of the ECNL teams in the CASL tourney.

The U15 linked to above. It is just a snapshot of one age group and it is a showcase so take the results with a grain of salt but still....

Let's be serious. The top teams in DA and ECNL are probably the best teams around but the bottom half could easily get outplayed by the top EDP/NPL teams. The U14 MRM Rush team that just moved to Bethesda, and Pipeline, routinely beat ECNL teams in the same age group.

DD plays on one of the better ECNL teams in the area and this is probably right. Dilution is real.

Yes. And the people complaining about dilution are the same people that don't want to drive further than 10 minutes to training. Ergo the need for a ton of "elite" clubs. Cant have your cake and eat it too.

Exactly! You should be talking up the amazing opportunities for B team players at FCV who get to play in DPL and go to Georgia and Florida to play other B teams!

I wonder if you could have McLean, Arlington, VDA, Loudoun, FCV, Bethesda, BRYC and Metro United play in the same league, whether the level of competition would have been meaningfully lower than these clubs are facing now in their respective ECNL and DA competitions?

No because DPL is the the DA version of ECNL 2.

Good players would make any team good. There is no reason to drive by 4-5 clubs. Good players get recruited, not teams.

The discussion is more or less back on track.

For many different reasons, you are not going to get all the best players into one league. Great players who want to play HS will join ECNL and who do not will join DA. Those not near an ECNL/DA will end up at a strong independent club. More ECNL/DA just gives more kids the option to play at a high level. MoCo and NW are feeder pools for Bethesda yet outside Bethesda's oldest girls team, Bethesda is mediocre at best. There is little dilution. More clubs in VA just means that clubs like McLean and Arlington will benefit from Bethesda's demise.

Is diversity in the sport a good thing? I would suggest it is.
